Five Weeks Will Determine Dallas Cowboys’ Season
http://profootballtalkline.com/nfl/...ks-will-determine-dallas-cowboys-season.html/

(a solid view if one reads it all)

...It’s back to business for the Dallas Cowboys after their bye week and with 11 games left to play, there is no time to waste in fulfilling their potential in 2017. We chronicled how the team got no help within the division during their off week, but there was also some sun shining through. Think of the glass as half-full.

The Eagles, Giants and Commanders all won, but the Packers and Falcons, two teams who many have thought to be road blocks on the Cowboys’ path to the Super Bowl, both lost and look mortal. No Aaron Rodgers spells trouble for Green Bay and Atlanta looks nothing like last year’s version, which makes the NFC wide open.

More good news has come in the last few days, Ezekiel Elliott and Sean Lee, two of the teams most important players, were both back on the practice field preparing for this week’s game. Elliott got at least a two-game reprieve from his suspension, which means he’ll be on the field when the Cowboys start a big five game stretch that will define their season...

A lot will have to prove itself out:

Jason Garrett will have to prove that he can overcome real and in season adversity...by motivating, 'his' team.

Dez and Prescott will have to become that killer Red Zone pair that just doesn't disappear.

The defensive line will have to become synonymous with heat...and the presence of both Irving and Lawrence a valid fear of opponents.

Sean Lee now has no more injury time with pine riding.

The secondary starts churning out a game recurring turnover.

Offensive execution and no drive killing penalties.

Forcing second half punts more than once a game.

Don't think so

This place would never, and I mean NEVER, give the Cowboys the same vote of confidence that they've been giving the Eagles the past few weeks.

Hell, we won what, 11 games in a row last season? And people would still spend each week nitpicking and manufacturing reasons to not believe, but here they are mid-October crowning the stinkin Eagles (so gross) as division champs and declaring them Super Bowl winners.

How bizarre.

Perhaps instead of poking fun, they present a real side to observe and gauge direction, and not just being bounced about by wave actions.

The same way the team does, by selling hope.

Straight up, does the team have the ability to win five in a row...or not?

And for the record, the OP set a legitimate standard to determine failure or success based upon the next five games. Pumping sunshine? Not hardly...

Sure they do. Likewise, as they have painfully demonstrated, they also have the ability to lose them as well.

We'll have to see. After managing to be outcoached by not one, but two rookie coaching staffs, they've managed to seriously drop the faith in them that many had before.

They've pulled defeat from the jaws of victory for two weeks now. They need to show that they're capable of rebounding.

Now just who were those teams and are they top tier in the NFC, or not...the two teams lost to.

But the OP set a standard for early arrival for doom and gloom...or success as well.

No, there's very little "top tier" in this league right now. In fact, the Giants managed to throttle the Broncos team that demolished the Cowboys in week two, without their entire receiving corps.

Things can always go either way, I'm just down on this team right now and they will have to work to restore my faith. They need to show me before I start to believe in them again.

The fans brought this on themselves. Clearly Garrett has never coached the team to stardom and defintely blew a gift last season. This season the FO looks at 13-3 and says lets blow this mutha up and start fresh on D, am i right? Ok so they thought up a plan and stuck to it. they also did something really dumb and let Leary walk, ok ok ok you can argue Leary didnt want to stay, wasnt worth the money, blah blah blah, how you liking that line now with the facts? i would have thrown the money at Leary and dumped off most of the defense and started a new, but also with new coaches and kept the offensive line together because offensive lines can last longer. Ok that aside, this team was going to need at least half a season to install the defense and go with the rookies, despite themselves making some more choices to set the defense back even further. Ok, its Dallas, if you havent figured this out by now, well to be fair lets all be glad the human body doesnt allow us to manually breathe.

You were going to lose 8 games just for the defense, we made it worse money wise with some bad deals, and decided to let a player walk and screw up not 1 but 2 lines. This is the result. There will be no noise, nothing to celebrate team wise, we just have to pray some rookies make it, than deal with what flops, i would prefer a new coaching staff, but thats not going to happen either. Id also prefer Stephen to grow a pair, still not going to happen.

This is the Dallas Cowboys, so says 20 plus years of facts. Its not changing soon kids.

Agreed.

I thought it was a valid view of the next 5 games and how that stretch will likely confirm our 2017 identity.

I didn't take it as extreme "doom and gloom" or extreme "sunshine pumping".

But then again, some people are only happy when they have something to complain about.

Or, the Giants and Raiders both showed that a team can set their course straight once again and gain team confidence from that point as well...if one is looking.
