Coming into this season we knew that there was going to be a problem on the OL with Connor Williams and Tyler Biadasz next to each other. We've seen it all season. Williams holds because he gets overpowered. They tried to fix the problem by moving McGovern to LG and that was an even bigger mess. In the offseason they need to fix this but how?
Some of us have advocated moving Collins back to LG. Personally, I think the criticism of Collins is misguided. He got called for holding yesterday, but he was going against one of the best DE in the league and honestly I think the hold was called because Bosa went to the ground, not because Collins held him. Do people really believe Steele would have done better against Bosa? The same way McGovern was going to be an improvement over Connor Williams?
In the offseason the Cowboys have a lot of work to do but no CAP room to do it. The draft will only take them so far, especially picking down in the 20s. IMO, the priorities should be a TE who can block and catch the ball. Someone who can make plays down the field. Another priority is offensive line. Connor Williams is a free agent so count him gone. But a guy who can play tackle, but start at guard next year might be the best option. I don't know if they can replace Tyron Smith in 2022. Picking 24th they would have to get very lucky.
Dallas will also need WRs. Gallup, Wilson, Brown and Malik Turner are all free agents. I don't see how Dallas does not draft one or more WRs.
Just those 3 positions and more than half their draft picks are gone. I would sit on what they have on defense. The DTs could still get better. They need to get stronger. I think Gregory will be gone and I was once against losing him, but now I think they need someone smarter to replace him. He gets caught inside too much and commits dumb penalties. I think Joseph will be a better cover corner than Diggs next year. Diggs was a major disappointment yesterday allowing a few big plays. I would re-sign Hooker and Kearse at safety if they take a reasonable price. But unfortunately Gregory and Armstrong are both free agents so DE may be a priority too.
The biggest problem with the Cowboys is not their players. It is their coaches. McCarthy saying he thought the refs would let them play is all you need to know why the players don't take the penalties seriously. I would fire McCarthy. Seems like an okay guy, but not the right guy for the Cowboys. I would also let Kellen Moore go to any team that would take him. We need a smarter more creative OC. Moore's reputation is more about the Jones hype machine than anything he has done on the field. Sure, the Cowboys have the #1 offense in the league but what do they do against the better defenses? Nothing. I am not a fan of promoting Quinn to HC. The defense looks a little better than the offense but not by much. When they needed a stop in the 4th quarter, the defense gave up multiple first downs by penalty. Wasted clock when they needed the ball back. Plus Quinn's defense lives on turnovers. If the opposing team protects the ball the defense cannot really stop them. I don't care what the media says, the 49ers are not a great team. Garoppolo is certainly not a great QB. The 49ers are well coached and it showed against the Cowboys.
Looking at the Cowboys now, I do not see how they repeat as division champs in 2022.
