Fixing Our Slow Starts

Ok, I have an explanation. It's really simple. We have a big oline that gets beat off the ball by fired up and fresh d-linemen and lbs early on. I mean, on running plays. Then, we try to throw and Romo is inaccurate early on. It's true in every one of his starts. His QB rating in 1st quarter is astronomically lower than his other Quarters.

So, Garrett, listen up--We gotta throw early on and we gotta find a way to get romo into the game quicker.
My suggestions:
1) WR and RB screens
2) rollouts
3) Take a deep shot early--like NE did, just bomb it to get some blood pumping.
4) Make him warm up harder--actually break a sweat
5) Called QB draws and or bootlegs
6) reverses

GET ON THIS NOW! It was the biggest reason we lost. We spotted them 14 and then played tied the rest of the game, with a tired D. The game was closer than it looked and if we score once early in the 1st half, it's very possible we're up 24-14 at half (because our D gets less time and less drives on the field, plus another stop from momentum/rest)

I would say better execution to start with. We started the Buffalo game throwing it and we have ran it what we have not done is execute at the start of games.

Much easier than all of this.

Start Marion Barber and let him knock someone in the mouth. It fires up the whole team.

Maybe so but the line needs to do a better job at the get go and they have not done well at protection and opening holes at the start of games. Talking about Barber how did you like the run he made to avoid the safety? talk about making the heart race.

Remember in preseason and this year when Marion gets the ball early, he gets stuffed too

We need to throw early! Problem is, Romo takes a while to get going (he's a diesel engine). So, get him moving.

Hostile, my ideas are much more and more creative than your weak one.

The inability 6 weeks into the season to overcome the slow starts is a HUGE coaching failure. Garrett needs to find away of correcting this. Of course, the defense and special teams have not helped much by giving the O terrible starting field position early in games.....

Are you kidding? I did more dance moves than Emmitt on that dancing show. I can't believe he got out of there.

See, now you just done gone and hurt my feelings. And I'm out of Kleenex because it's allergy season.

No kidding he was falling backwards I thought for sure it was 2 points Pats how he was able to maintain balance and vision to get out of there was remarkable.

For me the best play of the night was his stiff arm on Rodney Harrison that basically pancaked him.

I respect that kind of football.

Yeah, Barber has a mean streak, but I worry if he starts that he won't be able to keep it up the whole game/season. He'll wear himself out.

To fix our slow starts, they need to throw some 3 and 5 step drops in there early to get Romo in rhythm, maybe go no-huddle a bit, and then hit them long with a little bit of play-action.

I love how aggressive Garrett can be, but we have to stop abandoning the run so early, too.

Totally agree, and Garrett was quoted as saying he "has no idea" why we start slow. Well, I do!

It's obvious--so get to fixing it. Get Romo's engine running early and come out throwing more. I think every one of the first 2 drives in every game we have run the ball to start. Totally predictable. And not what we can do well early on

No other suggestions?

This was key--we spotted them a tired D and 14 points. We gotta get going earlier. It's our biggest weakness.

I know some say it's pass defense, but the league is designed for passing. All the rules favor the offense and the schemes have learned to take advantage of a bounty of receivers. No one can stop NE completely. Even Baltimore, Chicago, etc. give up points against passing teams.
