Flo's false starts

I don't think Flo has had a false start during the current win streak. I am almost sure, he has not had one in last 3. Anyone have that stat?

Saying that, he is going to have a hard time this week. I think he has Allen to block, plus the fact that the Metro Dome is sooo loud. Can he step it up this week?

Your thoughts?

Flo has got to be smelling him some super bowl. At his age he knows he's running out of time. Quite the incentive.

He's going to have a false start or two next week, playing in the Metrodome. I for one simply don't get worked up about Flo's penalties. He can take 3 or 4 penalties as far as I'm concerned as long as he keeps Allen away from Romo all day.

Flo's penalties are just part of the package you get with him. Maybe they drop him from "great" to "very good" overall, but I can live with very good.

I will say this. Jason Witten gets a ton of penalties without ever drawing a comment. Flo's position doesn't catch passes and get first downs but the way the guy blocks he deserves some leeway.

The guy who most hopes we get rid of Flo is Trent Cole's accountant. Cole was destroyed by Flozell when it counted and that won't help come contract negotiation time.

I looked up these stats earlier in the season, time to update them...you might be surprised

Before the bye week (5 games), Flozell had 4 false starts.
Before the bye week (5 games), Witten had 0 false starts.
Before the bye week (5 games), Everybody else had 1 false start.

Since the bye week (8 games), Flozell has 2 false starts.
Since the bye week (8 games), Witten has 5 false starts.
Since the bye week (8 games), Everybody else has 6 false starts.

Last 4 games they've played, Flozell had 0 false starts.
Last 4 games they've played, Witten had 2 false starts.
Last 4 games they've played, Everybody else had 5 false starts.

So that's:
Flozell: 6
Witten: 7
Everybody Else: 12

Stats from the play-by-play pages for each game.

First of all - I am not one to believe in jinxes. That's like believing that Romo has never won a playoff game so he will not beat the eagles the next week, or saying that Romo muffed the hold on a field goal, that he is going to do it most of this time. Get real.

I was a Flo hater early in season, because of his poor play and the pressure Romo was under from his man. Flo has really improved his play in the last few weeks, as have several other OL. I commend Flo on this.
I just wanted to point out that with his hearing problem, and the loud stadium, plus he is going up against one of the best, that he is going to have to step it up another notch this week. I believe he can do it!

And thanks for the stats EPL; that's what I was looking for.

It's nitpicking, but cmon Jase.

That cant be right, CZ experts said Adams gets 2 or 3 false starts a game.

And Columbo was actually on pace to beat Flo in false starts too (before his injury). I think he got another one on Saturday.

Flo has actually improved this season (from 2008).

The playoff win had to be especially sweet for Flozell .. he's by far the longest tenured Cowboy and has played his entire 12 year career during the playoff draught. Flozell was here for the Chan Gailey playoff loses.

Flozell has kind of a funny legacy in Dallas. A above average to very good player who will probably never get much adoration among Cowboy fans because he played his entire career during the worst stretch in franchise history and his flaws are highlighted because he's associated with bad or frustrating teams. While maybe lesser former players who played during the 90's are universally adored by Cowboy fans because they're associated with great teams and great memories

I actually can't remember if the Vikes do much late movement with the coverages and line etc.

Do they?

If not, can we do away with the long pauses with the linemen in their stances while Romo reads and hard counts etc?

That would help prevent some of the false starts.

IMO, Witten's false start on Saturday was not his fault. He was going in motion and either Romo or Gurode decided to start the play before he was set....there was plenty of time on the play clock to allow him to get set.

On second thought, it might be Witten's fault. I don't know why he can't go in motion and simply turn to the line of scrimmage without running toward the line of scrimmage.
