Flozells "flinch" before the snap

Just watched the Titans game for the second time. Anyone else notice that Flo almost flinches like .5 seconds before the snap? I swear it's off sides every single time and yet they don't call it. I'm pretty sure opposing coaches are going to see this and point it out to the refs before the game.

If anything it's a HUGE advantage to Flo for getting off the line quicker. I'm afraid that if he doesn't get that extra .5 seconds the pass rusher is going to go right by him. It something minor now but could potentially be huge down the line..

Thoughts?

I saw it multiple times, actually just mentioned it a few minutes ago in another thread. That will get called if he keeps doing it, I'm sure they'll see it while watching the film and take care of it.

My question is.. why don't the announcers ever comment that Flozell has a tough time hearing out of his right ear? Isn't he partially deaf or something?

Ya that's what I'm afraid of. He's going to think that it's fine and develop a habit for it until they penalize him for the 10th time.

Yes he's partially deaf. Its really unbelievable if you think about it.

I didn't notice a flinch, but I did notice that it looks like Flo gets out of his stance before the snap. Flo did this last year as well. He looks like he is getting out of his stance early, but it really has to do with the center snap having more touch and getting to Romo at a slower pace as well as the center and guards getting out of their stances slower than flo. Watch the snap and you will see Flo is not moving early most of the time.

It's possible Flo is just getting a great getoff. He's allowed to move when the center moves the ball at all. They could have such great chemistry with Romo's cadence combined with Gurode's snaps that Flo is just getting out before anyone else.

Like when Ware gets flagged for being offsides but isn't.

It's a possibility. Let's go to the super slo-mo, Johnny.

The head linesman and the line judge are looking directly down the line at the ball. Calling a false start on a tackle is one of the easiest calls to make. If Flozell were committing false starts, it would have been called.

We should be congratulating Adams for a job well done. I think he's been pretty good so far.

kmd24 speaks truths.

I almost didn't recognize Flozell, though - he's noticeably slimmer this year.

I only recognize it when they're in the shotgun, meaning that Flo is probably getting off exactly when the ball is snapped, IMO. I agree w/ those who said if he was false-starting, he would see laundry flying his way I'm sure.

If I'm not mistaken, he's done this for years and frequently gets away with it.

It seems like the Indianapolis Colts linemen does this a lot as well and never gets flagged for it.

This.

He's been doing it forever, and he does it to get an advantage. A lot of his false starts are really when he just guesses wrong. It does enable him to do his job better, and as he gets older he depends on that extra step more and more.

It's something we just have to live with out there.

Agreed.

Unfortunatley, we can cry and moan about Flo's penalties all we want, but at this stage of his career, it doesn't look like he's going to change.

We'll just have to take the good with the bad, I'm afraid.

Personally, I just think the refs have fatigued from whistling him for FSs

I think it is a combination of things. First off, from stance to standing, Flozell is very quick off the snap. Secondly, there were multiple times that the rest of the offensive line moved just a fraction faster than Gurode's snap, so he might be a bit slow in that department. Finally, Flozell does appear to anticipate the snap. He clearly jumped on the play that Romo threw to Witten down to the 1 and perhaps gets called in a regular season game. He just needs to be smart about the situation; be a bit more carefull on 3rd and 1, etc.

It's not a flinch. Flo just has a pronounced "leg kick" when he gets out of his stance at the snap.
