So we make moves, signing players, restructuring to gain cap space. There is talk that 37m is coming when Daks deal is redone. Another 18m if Parsons gets extended.

Stephen says we will be selectively aggressive…leaving people guessing. Jerry and Dak say this team is close so we aren’t rebuilding according to them.

Fans are talking Cowboys again. It appears Jerry heard the complaints from last year and realizes it is time to poop or get off the pot.

But what if….it is the same old same old? Resigning guys that haven’t got it done in the past. Bargain bin shopping.

Will this be more of a slap in the face of the fans than last year?

All talk and no real actions will not be received well. We expect to extend our better FAs. What fans want to see in addition to that is not adherence to the same rigid free agent philosophy that has failed us.

Us Cowboys fans are so vulnerable right now, we could sign a Turtle and it would be joyful to us!! Lol, no we're just happy that they're doing something at least, hopefully more good things are to come!!!!

CFIH gave a really good response to "Coog's thoughts on Schotts job so far thread."
He said it was just another Jerry ploy of selling change as hope the same as the transition from Garrett to McFraud and even cited publicly perceived decent FA acquisitions like McCoy, Dix and Poe during that time span too.

From a big picture perspective it is hard to disagree with his opinion based on Jerry's long history of past behavior.

Just another big rinse and repeat.

I think Stephen would define re-signing Osa for $80 million as being selectively aggressive.

It very well could be rinse and repeat. Hopefully not. Because bringing back the same team minus a guys and a couple bargain basement free agents isn't going to do it. I know they have used the excuse that injuries were the real cause of the down year. But that is just a convenient excuse. This team as structured last year was not good enough. It wasn't as good as the two years before either.

What would be frustrating is to have us commit so much money to guys like Parsons and Osa and players like Smith and Ferguson and Overshown and then need to blow it up in two years. Sitting still makes absolutely no sense. The only two options that do are to either make a real run, or blow it up. They haven't made any effort to blow it up.

Any less than signing two or three impact free agents means that it's all for show, all for appearances.

Reality is this time of year last off-season we were doing nothing almost. No urgency. This right now is the polar opposite of what we saw last year. I see a change. Something is coming.
We're signing our own free agents and restructuring contracts to do it. That is what we do entering free agency every year, even last year. The first week of free agency will be more telling. Will the Joneses head out on the yacht for vacation or actually try to draw outside free agents to Dallas in the first or second tier?

I will be surprised if they do anything in FA the first or second week. I will be less surprised if they trade for a player, like they did for Brandin Cooks on March 19 of 2023 and Stephon Gilmore on March 14.

Agreed.

We will know soon enough, if Jerry gives BS what he asks for to run his scheme then Jerry should get credit and the heat is then on BS to produce..if Jerry sits tight then its just more of the same.
Yep..it will be interesting to see if he does for Schotty what he didn't do for McCarthy or Garrett.

People's interest would be up like it is every year this time of year with the combine and draft talk heating up and greater distance from last year's season.

The only thing really different so far is the new coaching names, but some think BS was a terrible hire.

One hope is that Jerry usually gives a new coach some things he wants the first year or two of his tenure, especially the first. Then as time passes, he inserts himself more and more. We'll see soon if the pattern repeats and we get some decent FAs or we still have to hear how cap-strapped we are.

I'd look back from 2020-2023 to get an idea of what we should probably expect...2021 is an interesting year to look back on and itll be interesting if they give Eberflus the DQ treatment in a similar fashion. A few guys like Brent Urban, Carlos Watkins, Malik Hooker, Keanu Neal, Kazee, etc. That year they doubled down on mid/low tier free agents and also went defense heavy in the draft that year as well.

Yeah but the vibe is different this time. We always sign our own but not this fast. This means maybe they want to hit the ground running come next week.
