Flurry of activity gets fan interest up

Yeah but the vibe is different this time. We always sign our own but not this fast. This means maybe they want to hit the ground running come next week.
If our own are heading into free agency, which starts March 12, then yeah, we do sign them this fast. The legal tampering period kicks off next Tuesday.

I think fans are mistaking us not signing Dak or Lamb early last year with signing players who are actually going to be free agents. We've only got a few days left to sign our own free agents before they can start negotiating with other teams.

Now, if we had signed Parsons to an extension this week, then that would be a different vibe.

Just feels different

There is zero percent chance Jerry heard or cares about the complains from the fans.

Every decision he makes is about how will it effect the bottom line. It's all about Forbes.

It feels obvious the Cowboys will restructure Dak Prescott's contract next

Restructuring Dak Prescott feels like the next major roster shuffle.

(coughing)

What exactly does it take to make a specific action correctly? Answer: 'I don't know, I'm only six!'

In any event, restructuring Prescott would saddle the Cowboys with another $36-37 million in cap space. The final sum hinges on how much of Prescott's base salary the front office converts into a signing bonus.

I'd look back from 2020-2023 to get an idea of what we should probably expect...2021 is an interesting year to look back on and itll be interesting if they give Eberflus the DQ treatment in a similar fashion. A few guys like Brent Urban, Carlos Watkins, Malik Hooker, Keanu Neal, Kazee, etc. That year they doubled down on mid/low tier free agents and also went defense heavy in the draft that year as well.
That wouldn't be a surprise to me, especially allowing Eberflus to bring in players familiar with his system. We probably should look at mid-tier guys hitting free agency from the Colts or Bears. Someone brought up LB Jack Sanborn from the Bears. That's probably the type of signing we can expect.

I would absolutely love to see a defense heavy draft, especially on the line.

All they have done so far is what they have done before in past years…. Resign some of your own. Players who have not gotten it done, and we’re supposed to be excited?

Status quo. Looks like they will be busy dumpster diving once again since not much will be left. Nothing new to see here.

Yeah and its not the worst plan of attack either. Obviously if a star offensive player drops in your lap it changes things, but I could see them doing defense back to back round 1 and 2. Offensively grab maybe a Will Hernandez and a 3rd wave WR to compete for WR2 then really focus on filling out the defense with the rest of your FA budget, even if its lower money rotational players.

I think you are getting caught up in the rush, possibly because we let a lot of our free agents go last year (Pollard, Armstrong, Biadasz, Fowler, Gallimore).
Yeah I dont remember the time frame, maybe it was later on, but we did sign our own guys like Dowdle, Edoga, Sieg, Goodwin, Lewis, etc around this time last year. Other than getting OSA locked up its been pretty status quo so far.

Maybe. But last year seems like we slow walked everything we did. This time feels more rushed. I been watching us do business since the 70s, but with free agency in the 90s, and just comparing the last few years to how we look this time, looks like they have something in mind. Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

I'm hopeful that we go with a second wave receiver and do grab a FA OL or two to be backups/compete with the young guys. I'm also hopeful that we get a second-wave MLB and veteran fill-in at CB while Diggs is out. That will make it easier to focus on RB and DL in the draft. (I would like to see CB Lewis and RB Dowdle, or the equivalent, signed as well.) I don't know if I expect all that to be accomplished. Most likely we'll add bodies at those positions and then try to improve too many spots in the draft to make DL a focal point, especially after signing our own fairly expensive DT.

I think last year the front office was completely focused on extending Lamb and Prescott. They just let the free agents walk without much effort and then made minimal effort to replace them with low-cost FAs. Of course, we didn't really have any free agents that we felt we absolutely had to retain last year. They were all going to cost too much for the return on investment, so we let them hit the market.

So far this year, we've only really made an investment in Osa. The rest are either low-rent (Goodwin) or restricted FAs we had to tender before free agency starts.

I like your optimism, but I'm a wait-and-see type. This front office has to show me that the plan is more than sign our own and then supplement with low-cost placeholders.

I mean, we still could even see some contributors (Lewis, Anger, Sieg, Kendricks, Cooks, Dowdle) walk away in free agency, which would not be much different than last year. I'm hoping we re-sign a few of those before FA starts.

Cowboys need to fill or upgrade positions at wide receiver (WR), right guard (RG), defensive end (DE), and running back (RB).

The Cowboys just signed a right guard player. If Lawrence is resigned, next, DE is back up. Dowdle needs to be resigned, with the Cap expanding to handle all of this.

In the draft, 3 strength expanding picks can more closely take best players again and directed offensive/defensive adds.

I'm thinking DLaw is gone to retirement.
