Flurry of activity gets fan interest up

I can never keep the rules straight so correct me if I'm wrong but all of those extra void years become irrelevant if he were to retire or the Cowboys release him early doesn't it? That has always been my primary concern with doing it on a 3rd contract like this, but I'm also not confident I have the rules right either.

Correct. It's just for cap saving purposes for spreading out the prorated bonus while he's still here. Short term gain, long term "pain".

They accelerate into one big cap hit as soon as the deal voids. What they could do is redo the contract similar to Martin's where the void expires after the start of the 202X season so his dead cap hit is split into two seasons.
That's if he plays out the deal. A june 1st cut acts the same way.

I have mentioned in several posts that just because they have moved the money it doesn't mean they will spend it. It could very well be added to next year's cap.

I would love for them to go balls out over the next two years and try to win....if it doesn't work, completely blow it up. Take the hits, clean up the cap over two years....field a terrible team, get high draft picks....get your QB and start all over.

One thing to keep in mind is the Cowboys currently have the 5th highest cap hit for 2026. That numbers $226M currently is likely to go up if they extend Parsons, 5th year option Tyler Smith, and sign FAs this year. They also have several players to make decisions on that are due for raises such as Bland, Turpin, Tolbert, Ferg, Aubrey, Sam Williams, etc.

Good chance they try to save $20M or so for rollover cash for next year.
There is already about 80m in restructures available for next year and that is before Parsons deal which will probably add a lot more to that amount. And like you said we could carry over a bunch of space from this year if Jerry continues to be Jerry. The only ones likely to get resigned are Bland, maybe Ferg, Aubrey and Williams if he produces in his contract year.

Close to half that $80m is in one player though who may or may not make sense to restructure a year from now. If Dak can rebound then yeah the Cowboys will have all the cap flex in the world for 2026, but I'm not sure that is a given. Also have to factor in Tyler Smiths 5th year option which I think is $21M?
