There are as many different variations in zone coverage as there are defensive coordinators at the pro, college, and prep ranks. This article is an overview of some general terms, rules, and concepts that are used by coaches at all levels. Before reading on, you may want to check out Chris Miraglia's article about the Cover-2 defense; we'll touch on some aspects of the Cover-2 here, but this essay focuses more upon Cover-3 rules, terms, techniques and assignments.

Dominique Foxworth also has an excellent article about the Cover 2 on the internet somewhere. I'll try and find it.

Amazing. All my years wasted playing Madden weren't waisted at all. I know all that stuff. Now maybe my wife will let me come out of my 5 year retirement that she insisted on. Maybe not.

There's been a collection of zoners (including myself) for some time now pointing out the apparent shift from man coverage to zone. So learning about what Marinelli is attempting to accomplish will grant you an ability to appreciate what is happening in front of us on Sunday so much more. Given all that, the content is absolutely well worth the time investment.

Not going to lie; I learned alot about football from Madden. I even played football in school, but never truly understood the big picture until really diving into the game on Madden.

Problem with cover 2 is it's becoming increasingly more irrelevant. It'll always be used here and there probably, but Cover 3 is taking over the NFL
Cover 2 is great if you have elite talent across the board on defense, but if you have holes, it's easy to exploit them. Cover 3 is much better in today's league because field goals are considered almost as good as punts.

I just read it,as it was on my phone when I woke up, the article said ' sky' coverage is two cornerbacks and one safety back deep, yet in the comments some poster stated it's two safety's and a cornerback, whose wrong?
I mean the comment dude was saying Sky= 2 safety 1 corner
And Cloud=2 corners 1 safety,,, which would be an easy way to reference ito_O
( I told you I'd read it, bro!
And it's a fantastic link.)

What the hell? I saw your post and went to pour me a tall drink, put on some comfortable clothes, turned on the faux fireplace and got ready for an hour long read. I open the post and one lousy paragraph!!! What the hell??
