News: Focus on fourth pick, but entire class will determine Cowboys' success

This year's draft will have no impact on their success this year. Especially if a qb is taken at 4.

Here's an amazing stat:

36% of the starting players in this year's Super Bowl were Day Three or later draft picks. Meaning that they were either drafted in round 4 or later or undrafted entirely.

And while we have certainly done a great job in the first round or two in recent years, we need to do better after those two rounds.

Why does that surprise you? The first two days are rounds 1-3. 4/7ths of the players are taken after day 2 not counting UDFAs which averages about 13/53rds of the active roster or about 1/4ths of it.

The other point is it doesn't matter where you get your starters from. What matters is how well they play. I do think you can get some idea how well you are drafting (in general) by looking at trends. Where does your depth come from?

Not sure how utilitarian any i this is as you are comparing SB teams which by definition played better than the vast majority of the other teams in the league. You should be getting better players in the top rounds and if you're not missing on them then there's less room on the rest of the roster.

Blaming the entire mess on Jerry Jones is absolutely fair and entirely proper.

He is the self appointed GM of this team and the only....ONLY....time he has taken part in successful drafts has been with the assistance of real football experts like Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. Otherwise, his drafts have totally reeked.

When Jimmy Johnson was the Head Coach and made ALL personnel decisions per his contract, the only thing Jerry selected on draft day was the clothes he wore. One year his phone wasn't even connected and he instructed Jimmy to pretend he was consulting him anytime the cameras were rolling in their draft war room. True story.

It's a grim comedy. The more Jerry Jones participates in the decision making, the worse the Cowboys become and the more he feels he needs to step in and help further. Then, when the team implodes he vows to find the reason and make appropriate changes. It's like a doctor force feeding sugar to a diabetic.

Jerry was one of the best informed owners in the NFL. He spent 9 years learning and talking with owners and GM's in the NFL. That was prior to his purchase of the Cowboys. He spent quite a while with San Francisco, and then was very close to the former owner of the Raiders. Al Davis was one of the most knowledgeable people in the NFL - when he had been a coach, Commissioner of the AFL, and owner of the Raiders.

Mr. Jones remained in contact with the old 'brains' of the NFL, frequently had discussions with people such as Gil Brandt and Tex Schramm, who were the real heads behind the development of the Cowboys - initially and through the Landry years.

No, Jerry was very well informed, but knew the origins of success that came with gambles. Instead of losing his franchise, 'ol Jerry continually built it up. He has a deep sense of pride, always has sought advice when changes were needed and a direction had to be taken.

Directions taken are a result of more than just uninformed decisions. They are a challenge. But using a standard of no Lombardis for a team in 21 years, is purely a coward's way at venting. Not a real fan of a team. Root for success, but vile insult is no where being held in the same view of sportsmanship or justified. The pure blame game is not discussive, but is actually a burn barrel character of stereotype.

Give some facts that can be discussed or just pick you a bottle of Ripple and stick to your burn barrel environment. You aren't sticking to real facts and are as prejudiced as anyone being a homie and playing in the street. Up front, if your claim to insight involves a whole 21 years and no evidence beyond that perspective...one is being foolish.
