You are describing NY style pizza. It's good too. It's not cracker thin, but it isn't thick either.

Turns out that the wife and I had this for dinner. Screaming Mimi's is said to have the best pizza in Savannah. They sell New Jersey, a thin crust pizza as you describe. It was very nice.
