Fool's Gold?

So? He still sucks and that offense provides no more threats to the Dallas defense than Jax.

Their WRs and TEs are better than Jacksonville's. Their OL is better too.

That's not to say the Skins are some world beater here, but you are underselling them as a team.

We're going to be in every game.

Even when people were predicting a blowout this week all I could do is laugh.

We have a strong defense and we run a lot of clock offensively. It's going to be hard to just run away from us.

But the pass game is so garbage that I have no confidence against any team we play.

We are literally a 50/50 team. Flip a coin against any team we play.

There's potential with the style of mediocrity we have.

You can suddenly "guess correct" a few times and find yourself in the post-season scaring the daylights out of what everyone assumed was a far superior team.

Giants 2x, Packers, Ravens...

None of these teams looked the part. A few of these teams staved off elimination with miracles falling their way and took full advantage.

Just battle every weekend, never surrender. Hustle and hit. Incremental improvement, stay as healthy as possible. It can be done.

I sound like Garrett. But I think I could out-coach him, so I dont feel bad about it.

The Commanders are basically the same team as the Jaguars, I don't see how a win next week changes much of anything.

The only thing that can come of the Skins game is that, if Dak throws the ball well, it will be the first time he's done so on the road in a looong time, but if he struggles and Dallas loses, the season is over. The Skins aren't a good enough team that the game is any type of measuring stick.

It's unfair to move the measuring stick, but I agree with the general premise of your post.

This is a Week to Week league where results prior have zero to do with any other contest post-kickoff.

Color me impressed after the Division is won, the Halas Trophy awarded and we get #6. Until then let's maintain our poise as a fanbase and demand all 3 of the above, and demand change to accomplish those goals if we are shorted any of them.

Oh I totally get that when you make the playoffs anything can happen.

Especially if you can play defense and run the football.

That is why I made the post about how I really like our team.

I just think the pass game is so bad that it cripples our season.

It certainly isn't a sexy game we play in the passing game. But this Defense has a shot at full strength to carry the team well past current and regurgitated expectations.

I just think if we get behind in a game and the pass game has to be used then our day is over.

If we could just throw the football then we might be a title contender because we have the recipe for what works in the post season but our 1960's pass game is atrocious.

It's pretty brutal.

But I can't give a decree of "no chance" at this point either.

The thing is the league is so mediocre in totality, all you might need is average to start stringing together wins if you have a stout D.

I agree.

I'm also seeing a correlation with us against mobile QB's. We need to stay away from those types.

I still think Dez Bryant would really help this team. Especially on the road when you need a guy to just go up and bring down a football.

We have to have that option in this offense. Even Romo mentioned it yesterday.

I've said several times in multiple threads during the week that Dallas matched up well with the Jaguars and I wouldn't be surprised if we won. But I did not expect 40-7. But I need to see this team beat Atlanta in Atlanta. I don't care what the score is, but beat a team like that. Or the Saints.

Commanders have a running game and a much smarter QB than Bortles and it’s an NFC East game where Gruden has seen Dak for three years. Considering our defense, this will just be a close game that can go either way.

Yessir.

I deleted half a post where I was rationalizing why we might have better success vs Goff or Mahomes than Russell Wilson or Watson.

My dream scenario is to get into the post-season and draw the Rams. We should have buried them last season, this year we have the D to ensure that would happen. Crazy talk, I know.

It's not.

Our brand of football is so 50/50 that we can beat just about anyone and lose to just about anyone.

The defense continues to look deeper and better. I have high hopes moving forward.

To me the offense is Jekyll and Hyde only when it comes to Dak as a threat to run. When we commit to the RPO and the QB rush as a big part of the offense it makes everything else work. The whole offense is based on it. All the misdirection is pointless without it. Keep running Dak. Hope he survives. Try to go on a run. We need to treat Dak for what he is and hope he can stay healthy. He has the size like Cam and he is smarter than Cam when it comes to taking hits. The offense has to be early Russel Wilson / CK2000 type stuff all day long. Just like yesterday. We can hang with anyone if we do that.

"Better than Jax" and "good" are not synonymous. I don't buy that they're better at the skill positions anyways...but that's semantics. They aren't good. This is a team that scored 9 points against the Colts and had only 13 until garbage time against the Saints. Those are two of the worst defenses in football.

Jacksonville was not a bad team last year. Their D was top notch. Not sure what changed because I don't keep track of the team. All I know is we played a solid game and the ball bounced our way the whole time....from Dak's fumble to turnovers, 1 INT and 1 fumble. We knew it would take some time for Dak to get on the same page with his receiving core. After one game I am not convinced (sorry fellow Cowboy fans). It will take several games for me to be a believer. Jacksonville is a good team and we flat out beat them in just about every area. Washington and just about every other team in this league can beat you on gameday if things are going their way. Even the best teams lose.

Garrett is here to stay unless we go 4-12 which we will not.

Well Mahomes can really run, but I agree otherwise.

Playing against a pure pocket passer allows this defense to rush 4 and cover with 7, without an in between. Against a running Qb, you have to either commit to zone defense, commit to spying with a 5th "rusher," or slow down your pass rush to maintain lane integrity. Dallas isn't good when they have to do any of those things lol.

It was so nice to be able to sit and watch a game and just enjoy it.

But based on what I seen so far this year - this was fool's gold. Glad for the win but I need to see it again.
I need to see it the rest of the season. If we keep putting up 1 td on the road I don't care what we do at home.

You're exactly right.

Aggressiveness of Front 4 is stemmed by contain responsibilities. Also makes youthful LB'ers and secondary hesitant and suddenly your defensive cohesion and conviction becomes undermined.
