Make an L with your fingers and put it to your forehead. Then look in the mirror and say LOSER 500 times slowly.

You have got it backwards. Jacksonville is favored to win and has to win by 4 or more and St. Louis is favored to win and SF can lose by up to 5 for him to win.DBoys;1188329 said:Jacksonville (-3) at Buffalo...Jacksonville to cover
-3 means that Buffalo is favored by three points. So a safety difference, tie or lead for Jax and Billy would win.
SF (+6) at St. Louis...SF to cover
SF is favored by 6 points. Anything less than that and Billy loses.

so when I see a +19 or whatever thats a number for the visting team and as such they need to score 19 points more than the other team in order to win on a bet if I was to bet to cover the spread? Can you not just bet the game flat out win or lose?

Cincy looks like a give me. I don't see Jacksonville being consistent enough to think they'll win the game, much less cover. I wouldn't touch San Fran with a 10 ft pole. I like New England over Chicago, but it's far from a gimme.Billy Bullocks;1188253 said:Here's my 4 team card I got going now. What yall think?
Jacksonville (-3) at Buffalo...Jacksonville to cover
CIncinatti (-3) at Clevland...Cinci to cover
New ENgland (-3) Chicago...New England to cover
SF (+6) at St. Louis...SF to cover

As far as bettin g on a win, ya in Vegas they always have "win" odds, like "bet $340 to win $100, or bet $100 to win $$320 as an example. Local bookies? Not in my area.
Billy Bullocks;1188373 said:Yeah, it's the opposite, but yeah.
I really dont think SF will lose by more than 3.
Im still pondering.
You think Indy rolls Philly, or do they win a close one.
A CD? For Chrissakes, online banks give you higher returns than CDs.Tuna Helper;1188393 said:Am I the only one that thinks its beyond stupid to bet on the NFL?
Look at what happened when Dallas played Washington a few weeks ago. I'm sure a lot of people lost their shirts on that one.
Parity makes it easier for Vegas and the NFL to make $$$$$$$$$$.
If you want a better investment, plow your betting money into a good stock, mutual fund, CD, etc. You'll be amazed at what you'll have in a few years.
