in laymen's terms?

Make an L with your fingers and put it to your forehead. Then look in the mirror and say LOSER 500 times slowly.:)

Jacksonville (-3) at Buffalo...Jacksonville to cover

-3 means that Buffalo is favored by three points. So a safety difference, tie or lead for Jax and Billy would win.

SF (+6) at St. Louis...SF to cover

SF is favored by 6 points. Anything less than that and Billy loses.
You have got it backwards. Jacksonville is favored to win and has to win by 4 or more and St. Louis is favored to win and SF can lose by up to 5 for him to win.

they always put the + or - numbers for the visitor?

so when I see a +19 or whatever thats a number for the visting team and as such they need to score 19 points more than the other team in order to win on a bet if I was to bet to cover the spread? Can you not just bet the game flat out win or lose?

Not just 19, but 20. 19 would be considered a "push".

As far as bettin g on a win, ya in Vegas they always have "win" odds, like "bet $340 to win $100, or bet $100 to win $$320 as an example. Local bookies? Not in my area.

Shows you how much I bet thanks for correcting me.

Yeah, it's the opposite, but yeah.

I really dont think SF will lose by more than 3.

Im still pondering.

You think Indy rolls Philly, or do they win a close one.

Here's my 4 team card I got going now. What yall think?

Jacksonville (-3) at Buffalo...Jacksonville to cover
CIncinatti (-3) at Clevland...Cinci to cover
New ENgland (-3) Chicago...New England to cover
SF (+6) at St. Louis...SF to cover
Cincy looks like a give me. I don't see Jacksonville being consistent enough to think they'll win the game, much less cover. I wouldn't touch San Fran with a 10 ft pole. I like New England over Chicago, but it's far from a gimme.

a push is a loss or the equal of a no bet?

Am I the only one that thinks its beyond stupid to bet on the NFL?

Look at what happened when Dallas played Washington a few weeks ago. I'm sure a lot of people lost their shirts on that one.

Parity makes it easier for Vegas and the NFL to make $$$$$$$$$$.

If you want a better investment, plow your betting money into a good stock, mutual fund, CD, etc. You'll be amazed at what you'll have in a few years.

;)

Well Philly D thrives on the blitz and Indy's OL is good picking it up. Philly will have problems with those WR's. Philly O sucks without McNabb.

I think Indy beats em by 2 TD's or more since it is in Indy.

It's just the thrill of turning $20 into $220.

Plus it makes games alot more exciting to watch.

A CD? For Chrissakes, online banks give you higher returns than CDs.

I knew a guy who was bettting 10k a week and he could never get ahead. He was constantly breaking even and he was really smart with the game.

For me it is an occasional bet with a friend or betting small amounts but anything over 1,000 would be dangerous for me if I lost because I would try and make that back up.

So I don't bet.

ok I got more knowledge now that I did when I woke up this morning, thanks for the education and good luck billy your bets got potential hope you win out.

One last question do you win out or are there odds like in the ponies? if you bet a dollar do you win a dollar or does it work differently?

With mine, on a straight bet it's a loss. On a 4 team parlay, it's knocked down to a 3, on a 3 team it's knocked down to a 2, on a 2 team parlay 1 push equals a loss.
