Seems lke I read something somewhere saying either the offense or the defense typically start the season stronger and one or the other takes a while to gel (hope that sentence made sense)

Anyway is this even a valid concept?

If so, which one typically starts a new season being more effective & why?

If not, never mind

thx in advance

They both start out well, usually. I think defenses have a better shot of getting tougher as the season progresses. Defenses are healthier in the beginning and there's a lot of communication and coordination that goes into creating a successful offense. The O-Line has to be on the same page, the QB and WR's have to be on the same page, the O-Line and the QB have to be on the same page, etc.

Obviously, there's defensive communication and it's important, but defense is more about technique and reading offenses. The thing that can stymie an offense as the season goes on is the weather, particularly precipitation and wind.

So maybe the point of the article I was trying to recall was as the season progresses, defenses have a tendency to improve more than offences.

Would that be an accurate statement?

I think there are way to many factors to answer that question.
