Football needs to change the Int rule

I have always been annoyed about how the NFL keeps stats on QB's for interceptions. Baseball has someone that makes a decision if a base hit is a base hit when the defense makes an error. Why has the NFL not labeled the passes tipped up into the air by the receivers as something other than receivers. QB's stats are strong contributing factors in probowl voting and that contributes to their salary and market value.

Today Romo's stat sheet will show 2 interceptions. I feel if the QB hit the receiver in the hands with the ball first he shouldnt get the interception.

I know i care too much about stats and tips happen to every QB ect. But I just dont see how the league can blame the QB when the receivers mess up in that way.

Am I alone?

Who gives a flip? The only stats that matter in the end are W and L.

May as well. The refs themselves already ruin half the game on judgment calls. I'm not sure why a judgment on whether it was a flat out QB error or not would hurt things.

Then why does the league even keep stats? If only wins and losses matter then why keep rushing stats, passing stats, sacks ect. Just put wins and losses really big and that all.

I see where your coming from but, a int is an int no way around.

IDK, We consider a sack fumble turnover still a sack, even though in my mind, a sack is when the QB is downed behind the LOS with the ball. If he loses the ball, why is he sacked?

if a spit ball is illegal why do the umps let them play when there's a light rain?

Well is a base hit in baseball a base hit no way around?
Because it isnt. If its an error on the defense then the batter doesnt get credit for the base hit. Sure he gets on base. But stat wise their is a difference.

It is still a turnover but why does the QB get the blame? Romo hit Austin in the hands on the first Int. He did everything he was supposed to do. It hit Austins hands. What happens after that shouldnt be blamed on the QB. And by giving him an Int it is misleading in some ways.

I know this doesnt make a difference in the long run. But it has always bothered me. Now if the Defense touches it first then i can see it being and interceptions credited to the QB.

btw...not trying to argue. Just making conversation. It beats another finger pointing thread tonight. :laugh2:

he hit Austin in the hands or Austin got his hands 10 feet off the ground to grab the ball?

A friend and I were having this discussion the other day, and we decided doing this would be a very slippery slope. Take a 5 yard hitch route turned into a 90 yard touchdown pass because of the WR breaking tackles as an example. If you're you going to assign the interception on a tipped pass to the WR, then the QB should only be credited with the 5 yards gained when the WR caught the ball. The other 90 should go to the WR. And for that matter, what about situations where the WR wasn't really open, but the QB "threw the receiver open"...who gets credit for the yards then? What about huge runs that only happen because a WR sacrificed his body and got a good block on the playside LB? The fact is, football is the ultimate team sport, no other sport comes even remotely close to requiring as much teamwork to achieve success as football. The way stats are credited now is really the only way it can be done without getting into some really big time hair splitting.
