Hey sometimes you gotta admit defeat and resp for acting so quickly/creatively (switching the kid from OL to DL) to nip the problem. I'm sure the dynamics bw coaches was a whole other job obv and even harder due to friendships/loyalty, etc.
Great to hear he is doing well after having so much thrown at him at that age. People forget a lot of HS football players are good kids; most are usually great in the classroom esp the OL though admittedly sometimes the stereotypes surface.
I fired my two best friends after my first season, they couldn't separate friendship from work. Brought in two young rookie coaches to replace them, they went on to do great things with me and are now both head coaches.

The funny thing about the 65-58 game, is that we beat the same team 7-3 the following year. Crazy!Shoot Coach you got my blood running just reading that! The first thing that came to mind after reading was how flexible you are with your offense scheme. I esp like how you threw a pass heavy year at them with the kid dominating liked that @ the same time (9 TDs is just crazy) after realizing your success with the shotgun run heavy (we hated those types of teams, we always had trouble with creative run heavy schemes like that; "wish they would just man up (us); sore loser talk" With your D and the success (12 all state) don't fix what aint broken there.
I can see your D coaches enjoying the win but obv feeling they were a culprit in the shootout. 800 yards to lose would crush a team (just guessing; our team and comp wasn't anywhere near that level but Dematha HS was). Our team ran the 50 front w/athletic ends as well and this was late 90s/early 2000s so seems like a common HS scheme due to the run heavy nature in that level of comp but we never had a player ever sniff anything like 20 sacks and believe double digits wasn't common either so that surprised me. I think that's more of the talent/comp difference as this is a Basketball city, etc. 14 All state in TX is very impressive and see why they stuck with ya; damn impressive. Very cool insight Coach.

Don't sell yourself short, I bet you can clap with the best of them. It's gotten Garrett by so far, so that plus your sage knowledge of the game should be able to get somewhere. The trick is to get a billionaire team owner to believe in you. I'm still working on my empire bro, but I'm still at least a decade away from making a purchase... hang in there.
