You won't find a bigger optimist than me. I won't give up on any season until we're mathematically eliminated, and this is no exception. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. So for any fellow cup's-half-fullers like me, this thread's for you.

Jerry said their initial thinking is 6-8 weeks on the Romo injury, in case anyone missed it.

So let's say Romo misses 6 games. This is already an optimistic time-frame, but bear with me here.

Our next 6 games are Jacksonville, @ GB, @ New York, Detroit, @ New Orleans, @ Indianapolis. We'll need to win 4 of these games to get to 5-7.

Where will they come from? First, we'll obviously need to beat Jacksonville and Detroit, the 2 "winnable" games. Then we'll need to claw and scratch to somehow split the other 4 games.

A long-shot, I know. Big time. I'm hesitant to even click "Submit New Thread".

But Jon Kitna is better than Brad Johnson was, and I think he showed that in the 4th quarter tonight when our offense finally showed signs of life. If we get THAT Jon Kitna for these next 6 weeks, well... anything is possible, to borrow a phrase from Kevin Garnett. You can't tell me that any of these teams are totally unbeatable, even with Kitna at QB. Cleveland stomping the Saints in the Superdome proves that. Green Bay is a mistake-prone and injury-riddled team very capable of losing to lesser competition as well.

So let's say that somehow, someway, the Cowboys find themselves at 5-7 with 4 games remaining, and Romo is ready to return.

Our last 4 games? Philly, Washington, @ Arizona, @ Philly. Romo's return inspires the team and we run the table, finishing 9-7. Hopefully that's a good enough record in the NFC this year.

Boom, playoffs. :starspin

Not looking forward to reading the replies this one'll get. :laugh2:

And yet the Playoff talks continue. LOL!

I understand optimism. I also understand denial.

At some point you have to see the deep seated problems with this team.

Roy Williams said tonight that Kitna is just as good as Romo. Sorry Roy, Kitna couldn’t hold Romos dirty jock.

We have ZERO chance of doing ANYTHING this season. It was over at 1-3. Season is over. OVER.

The only thing i am excited to watch is my boy Dez Bryant.

I'm sorry man. I hate to rain on your parade or just be a gloomy person but the playoffs were likely done before tonights game even started and they were officially put to rest, dead and buried, the moment Romo went down.

This team will be lucky to win 3 games this season with Romo missing all the time he's going to miss.

no need to worry about my reply.

ill never bash someone for having faith. god i would love if your scenario happened but i highly doubt it. yes its possible but what are those odds?

i would like to be optimistic like you but my common sense has prevailed lol.

kitna is not brad johnson bad and does have a lot of weapons. but hes an immobile qb playing behind a shaky line. hes also playing along with a defense that cant put forth any kind of consistet effort. no heart smh

Dude, only 1 team in the history of the NFL has ever started 1-5 and made the playoffs.

That was the Bengals in 1970, 40 years ago.

Let it go dude, just let it go. There will be no playoffs this year.

I understand the "face-palm"-ish replies and the "let it go, man" replies as well.

But keep in mind that of course I know the odds of my scenario are extremely bleak. Like a less than 2% chance of happening, maybe even less than 1%.

But that's still enough for me to keep watching and keep hope alive. Until 98% or higher becomes 100%.

I don't turn the TV off when the 'Boys are down 6 with 3 seconds left and with the ball on their own 5 yard line. And the odds of a 95 yard TD on that play, with the opposing defense in full "prevent" mode, is probably less than 1%.

I'll keep watching knowing it's very, very, very likely that we won't be playing after Week 17, but still with a shred of hope that will keep me dreaming until we're mathematically eliminated.

Crazy, ridiculous sports stories happen every single year in the United States. And many of the ESPY-ish stories involve greater odds being defied than the odds that the 2010 Cowboys would need to defy.

you dont have to stop watching. i sure wont like most of us

but you can still come to grips with reality.

the jags are not that good of a football team and their secondary is worst then ours. i can see us winning that gm and a possibly a couple more. but 9-7 is out of reach

Kudos to you, man, for keeping the faith. Me, I just can't blind myself to the fact we're going to be 2, 3, or 4 and a double digit number. It would take a miracle to win 7 games now.

We were beaten last night. Even with Romo it was far from certain we could pull that game out. We got turnovers and big plays, but it just wasn't enough.

Damn. And I thought I was an eternal optimist! For me, seeing 9 on the turf writhing in pain pretty much ended my hopes for this season! And not just because of who we'll have under center. Our defense seriously disappointed me with their effort last nite. They showed no heart or pride when the team needed them to the most...like they gave up once 9 went down. I've never been one to beat on the coach but when a team goes into a shell like they did when Romo went down, it's clearly a reflection of the team's leadership. If our Mr Nice Guy players aren't gonna get in each other faces then we need a coach who will (looking at you, Gruden). I think I figured out what we're missing and it's HEART! It's sad that Our rook WR was the only one showing passion and a will to win when the chips were down...

Eh, I don't know, I think 1-2% is pretty realistic.

As he stated, this is his thread of optimism. Don't join in!

I respect your opinion. I just hope you don't start bashing people that were right in voicing their opinion on how pathetic this team has been.

Too many disillusioned homers on this board do that...

I have been pessimist and cynic towards this team for many reasons the past few years...:banghead:

There's a really strong possibility that we end up with the #1 overall pick in the draft.

This team quits at the first sign of adversity as long as Wade is here contaminating the team with his loser mentality we'll be lucky to win another game. Tubby had the nerve to say this team gave good effort today, what game was he watching? sad thing is the team probably believes that so we can expect more of the same until we get a coach that has to ball to say they suck when they suck

Are You Crazy? Did You See The Game Tonight...kitna Is Terrible! He Couldnt Even Find His Old Pal Roy Williams....its Ova

I'll keep watching, but this team quit last night.

Eli then reminded us that crazy things can happen, but before that, we quit.

"True Optimist" doesn't really capture the essence of this nonsense.
