I hope you've been paying attention this year. In the last 2-3 months, I've seen the following:

1) Little Miss Sunshine
2) The Prestige
3) Borat
4) The Departed
5) Marie Antoinnette
6) Stranger Than Fiction

Each of these (even 5) are quality movies. I have not had a streak of seeing really amazing movies like this in a long time. I hope it continues, as I plan on seeing The Fountain on Wednesday, and possibly Casino Royale a bit earlier.

But my point is that each of these are incredibly original, well thought out, creative, and entertaining. I always get grated a bit when I hear about 'the drivel' that Hollywood puts out, and yet there are always good movies out.

The Departed was excellent, as we The Prestige. But to call Borat a quality movie is absurd. That movie was terrible.

America disagrees.

I only saw those 3 and I very much agree. Were all excellent. I think you will enjoy Casino Royale also since it seems liek everyone who saw it did. I personally loved it.

The Departed was great, a true5-star movie. I saw The Prestige last week. I found it very enjoyable and it kept my attention, but I found the ending to be bordering on absurd. I haven't seen enough movies that were released this year. A good one that I saw recently that was either released this year or last, was Hidden (Cache in French.) Very disturbing and very good.

Loved Little Miss Sunshine, Antoinette, and especially Borat. Borat is genius -- funny on so many levels -but lost on folks who don't understand satire.

I used to see 2-4 movies a weekend at the theatre, now I see MAYBE 1 movie a month until the summer season. The prices are just ridiculous. Now the only time I consider going is Sat. or Sun. before noon since it's only $5. It was $4, but of course they just raised it. I'm sure in a couple months it'll be $6, and by this time next year, about $7.50.

how can everyone think the departed was so good? i went with 2 friends. the movie dragged on and didnt need alot of parts. it didnt get at all exciting until hmm about 45 minnutes into the movie. i understand establishing characters but crap, boreing. than they just add all the action at the end with alot of senseless killing. 3.5/5. could of been great. was only good.

Going to see the Fountain tonight. I know that this is going to be an all or nothing, and might just end my streak of great movies. I've not liked Aronofsky films before, but this one looks great.

I will report back soon!!

Look forward to hearing your critique on Fountain CR. I like his films. Requiem for a Dream was THE anti-drug movie. Fohgetabout Traffic..... good movie too, but nowhere near the league of Aronofsky's film.

Well - I watched the movie. From my standpoint, my streak continues - I LOVED the movie. Thought it was excellent, original, entertaining, and emotional.

BUT - it was Aronofsky, and I should point out that a LOT of people hated it. This movie, like his others, isn't for everyone. I'm not one of those who say that those who don't like it 'don't get it.' That's not true - you could get it and still not like it.

But for me, I thought it was brilliant. Great to watch, cried at the end, etc. It's definitely a strange movie - it is NOT plot based, that is, there is no rising action, climax, denoument, conclusion. It jumps back and forth, but with purpose.

Some will watch it and think it is just ridiculous, and that's fine. If you are the kind of person who doesn't like strange movies that demand you to think far outside of the box, then this isn't for you. And there isn't anything wrong with that.

But for me - I thought it was astounding.
