I've always wondered why there is such hate towards Zimmer when he headed one of the best defenses in the NFL for however many years in the early portion of this decade. For a team that devoid of offensive talent/one that relied on the D to get to the playoffs in '03 (and if you knew how bad that offense was, you know how big of a feat carrying them into a 10-6 record is), I don't understand how some people can claim that he's the worst coordinater ever or whatever the case may be.

Last year was an abberation. I think Zimmer is a solid coordinator, and he's proving that this year.

I'm with you. I think he is showing a lot this year with the changes in scheme and young players he is dealing with and yet this defense is coming on strong

I think the majority of Zimmer haters that you'll hear from are bandwagon guys that love the team as much as the most recent games outcome......there are, however, true Zimmer hating die hard fans out there, and I like you, do not understand why.....it is one of the things that has puzzled me most about this teams fan base. I think Z has done a great job, and I think anyone who can have, void major injuries, a consistently top ranked defense hashe's had deserves a lot of kudos!!

Look how bad Jim Johnson is doing without some of the players (Burgess, Corey Simon).

Coaching is important but if you don't have the players to run your scheme right, you can go from Genius status to Mr. Average real quick.

I agree, only in the world of coaching can a man go from Genius to Moron overnight. LOL

I am not among the anti-Zimmer club, but I am going to defend them here. They are NOT bandwagon fans. Some of them are very knowledgable about football, and they bleed silver and blue. In short, they are great people.

To get to the crux of their disgust simply look at the sack totals and takeaway totals for the years since he took over as the DC. Those totals were some of the lowest in the NFL.

Now, I've long maintained (and continue to preach) that this has more to do with the personnel than it does the DC. As was mentioned in this thread already in 2003 we had the #1 defense, but that is predicated strictly on yards allowed. It has nothing to do with points allowed, sacks, or takeaways which are better indicators of a dominant defense.

We're building towards those things and I think the man has done a great job. He did more with less than most DCs could have. That is just my opinion. No one has to agree with me, but I'd argue my point until they were sick of me.

Back to the bandwagon fan comment. I have another name for bandwagon fans. I call them "fans." I simply don't need to dislike my fellow fans when I can so easily dislike Eagles, Commanders, 49ers, and Cardinals fans.
