I think some people had unrealistic expectations that it might say, "Thank you for you patience", "We try harder" ", or possibly "We've got the clap! ".

I think the design they chose was the smart, more marketable, choice.

It's been 40 years. I would think most fans have accepted it as a marketing slogan by now.
