This team set franchise records on offense in many categories last year. Improved special teams play should provide better field position and allow them to score from time to time without expending as much energy or overexposing Romo, OL. Owens etc... If you look at the 2007 postseason, no team scored liked they scored in the regular season. I said all of that to say this.....the 2008 Dallas Cowboys will reach the next level when their defense plays up to their monetary investment/draft status. When this defense goes out and does what the Giants did to the Pats in the Super Bowl, that is when this team has arrived. By the time the postseason rolls around everyone has 16 games of film on you and everybody knows what everyone can do. The defensive side of the ball is where we have the most talent, depth, and money invested. We should be able to deploy enough bodies on defense to keep our cover men and pass rushers fresh for the postseason. We should be able to overcome injuries on that side of the ball.
Of course having Glenn would be nice....IF HE WERE HEALTHY. But that is not a guarantee. The Cowboys have made their bed in recent drafts with defense. Since they have refused to address the WR position they are going to have to put the onus on the defense to get us back to the mountain top. This is not rocket science. This is how we did it in the 90s. All we really had a WR is Michael Irvin. But we were big and physical up front, ran the ball...and on defense we covered/tackled/harassed the QB.
Lastly, getting this defense to accept the responsibility of carrying this team is in our best interest going forward. Recent stats have shown that the drafting of WRs this decade has not made that much of a difference for winning teams in the NFL...and more importantly, we have neglected the position so long it would take a couple of seasons to retool. So let's put it on the defense and make a run over the next 4+ years.
