they own the 49ers first rounder and the 49ers just had their starting qb knocked out. their new starter is trent dilfer.

with the way browns is playing, the pats might wind up with a higher pick in the first round than the pick that we get from the browns. wouldn't that be ironic?

i wonder if there is a position that the pats can use a high first rounder on? what if they wind up with jerry's boy from arkansas?

Why would they take ANOTHER RB in the first round after taking Maroney last year?

are you saying if you are the pats and you are in a position to draft mcfadden, you wouldn't just take the guy and pawn off maroney to the highest bidder? something like a first day pick plus a conditional pick based on performance?

If New England is wanting to pawn off Maroney for a "first day pick"... I'd gladly give them a third or even a second and plug him back in with Marion.

I'd take that deal all day long and they can have McFadden if their pick is that high. Maroney is a damn good back.

So, I guess my answer would be, no, I don't think they'd take McFadden. I think they'd turn him into about three premium picks and keep Maroney.

Is this really a downgrade?

Smith may possibly be held up there as a first round pick with guys named "Couch".

What would truly fit the definition of ironic would be the Pats trading a high first round pick to Dallas for its two first round picks so Dallas could draft McFadden -- giving the Patriots back their two first round draft picks.

i'd take maroney on the cheap too, but the fact that the pats will likely wind up with a high pick really sickens me.

I don't know of anyone who didn't know they had two 1st rounders. The media made sure to bring it up every time they commented on the loss of the pick. To not know this would almost require someone to be completely oblivious.

but that was before alex smith got knocked out. a 20 something pick is not the same as a top 10 pick.

What does that have to do with the thread title?

Because Alex Smith got knocked out the Pats get a 1st rounder? No, the Pats have a 1st rounder because they made a draft day trade with San Francisco. They have that 1st rounder regardless of how well San Fran plays.
