I challenge you, look at the free agents that all the conference champs have, and eventually the Super Bowl champs have. True, they build depth and longevity from their drafts, but they all have key, and big time free agent additions. I understand the period just began. But if our first cuts and additions are any indicator of the path we are on, get ready for a long, hard season. One that will not yield much success. Is there much difference between the guys we brought in during the season and the guys we are bringing in right now? These guys probably would've been available and looking for jobs this coming season. Compare those guys with the guys we are losing (for good and bad reasons), it's a perfect image of Jerry and who The Dallas Cowboys are as a franchise...

Must we overreact to the first days of VFA *every* offseason? And then complain in retrospect about the players we signed to premium contracts a year after the off seasons when we do make a notable signing?

Value FAs and smart, consistent drafting is the way to go. Overcommitting to players like Aqib Talib and Eric Decker is not.

I'd overpay and over commit if it meant going deep in the playoffs and being contenders ever year.

Over reacting has been caused by watching the same thing year after year..

Who says free agency doesn't matter? I've not seen anyone on this board say that at all. I don't think anyone will argue with you and say that a team can succeed strictly through the draft. At the same time, it's asinine to think a team can succeed through free agency---the cap makes this impossible. The teams that are on top now are those who draft very well, then use free agency to plug the FEW holes remaining.

In today's NFL, you must be successful at both.

Overpaying and overcommitting guarantees nothing

I agree to a point but the Broncis are absolutely right in what they are doing.

It's all about taking advantage of the Peyton Manning window. Overpaying and over committing to a few key players to win a Super Bowl now is what I would want as a fan if we were in the same position.

Will it work - maybe maybe not but they have to be all in right now.

I wish this team would have taken this approach before and have no problems with them bargain shopping. I actually like the Mincey and McClain signings and think they will provide needed depth. I really wish this team wouldn't have broken the bank with Carr and his contract his exactly what is wrong with free agency. You have to pay a premium for FAs and most of the time they never live up to their contracts. I would like to sign 2 more jags on the Dline and then go heavy on that position in the draft. I have no problem not paying Melton 9 million a year.

Stopped right there. It's March 13th. The horse has just barely cleared the gate.

C'mon big dog, your better than that. At least read it if your gonna talk about it...Your right, this thing just started, but we know our horse. We know where he likes to ride. We know how he starts and where he finishes.

I don't think Denver's problem was defense. They lost the SB because their OL just couldn't keep Seattle's DL out of Manning's face long enough to complete a pass of more than 3 yards. If they want to sing Ware for a lot of money, I wish him well, but I think they need to get some OL in there if they want to ge all the way...

Good post. Build the team through the draft and fill in the holes with free agents that offer a good value.

Well, I felt nauseated after reading this. My first impression of the signings was rotational players that could help but not starters. In other words if the starters went down with an injury these are the players who would be playing in many games. Marinelli would have to be a magician to turn these guys into starters. At less he has all training camp to make that determination. Another view is that he brought in these guys as starting the season until the new draft picks get up to speed. This is the option I am betting on. As for the other DL players still on the team, I think that they will be given a chance to prove themselves but I view them as stop gap and rotational players until the new draft picks can start.

My first day FA 2 cents opinion until we see more from the draft and I have seen posters compare this with the Campo time. Please explain?

1. Nobody has said free agency doesn't matter.

2. Your entire post is personal opinion and pure conjecture.

3. Lol.

I guess you forgot about signings like Bryant Westbrook, Quentin Coryatt and Kevin Hardy during that era.

The Dream Team? The one that essentially cost Andy Reid his job there?

Ha! Yeah that squad. The one that cost A LOT of people their jobs. A lot of those players are also out of the league too including the one who anointed them the "Dream Team" in Vince Young lol.

We also have big $ free agents on our team, including the 50 million dollar man in the secondary, but teams don't do that year after year after year.
