Nils Lofgren on Michael Vick

Nils says so well what I have been attempting to convey to sports fans myself. That anyone holds Vick up as any sort of hero or star makes me physically ill.

An open letter to the men and women of the sports reporting community,

I am so disheartened and disappointed by your collective, lopsided praise of Michael Vick due to his recent spectacular on-field performance.

Jemele Hill stated on ESPN's "The Sports Reporters" that if Josh Hamilton could win one of baseball's MVP awards after recovering from alcohol and drug abuse, why couldn't Vick win the award in the NFL? Well, for one thing, Hamilton has neither tortured dozens of dogs nor murdered defenseless animals.

I do not know what is in Michael Vick's head or heart. But in a recent ESPN interview, and elsewhere, he stated that while he was committing these heinous acts of cruelty, it never occurred to him that he was doing anything wrong.

What a chilling, telling statement.

Let it be the man did his time and has done nothing but prove he is an athlete and kept his mouth shut. We all screw up, sure his acts were terrible, but we all mess up and its time to put things behind us. We can all start freaking out again when Mike Vick starts buying pitbulls again...

Sooooo if Jason williams was released and came back to the NBA and played at a top Tier level all should be forgotten and brushed under a rug?

In other news Vick is in the running for times magazine man of the year award.
After that the nobel peace price will be within his grasp.

Get over it. The man apologized and served his time in prison. Move on.

Not a chance!

The man is creepy. He did unconscionable things, truly awful. And his 'apology' nets him glory and millions of dollars. Excuse me if I don't find it completely convincing.

There is something seriously wrong mentally with a man who did the things he did.

Lot of hypocrites around here if you're still on the Vick thing.

Certainly a man can't learn from the errors he makes and change his ways.

Im sure all those condemning him are the ones who have lived perfectly clean and decent lives. Probably the same ones who have never made a mistake in their lives too..

Also, the title of this thread is quite amusing. Its not like anyone is praising him for what he did. They accept him because he took his punishment, seems to have learned from it, shows to be humbled, and is turning his life and career around and doing great things on the field.

Yeah, it's not like he raped some chick in a Colorado hotel room.

If vick was a 3rd string OL he would be banned forever. Vick deserves the rape stand too.

Yes the man paid his debt but he shouldnt be praised and in the limelight. BOO on the NFL. It says a lot about the conglomerate we know as the NFL. Unfortunately for them there will be no next season.

So you equate a dog to a human?

Nice.

Where do cows rank in your hierarchy?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Let those without a clue to aberrant psychotic behavior not bother posting.

That'll knock out about half this thread.

It's one thing to kill an animal. Its another thing to kill it by torture such as electrocution and drowning. The electrocution was NOT overwhelming where the brain short circuits and the animal dies almost immediately. This was repetitive use of short exposures to household 120v outlet power.

One of the very first tell tale signs of truly psychotic behavior is the torture of animals, and so few people here and elsewhere understand the implications of Vick's behavior.

Yeah, he did his time for organizing an interstate gambling ring. Yes, he's made his comeback. In this case, he changed his spots because he was looking at a MASSIVE mound of debt for the rest of his life or he could be making millions for the time being.

Once he's out of football, I'll pimp slap each and every person with a 2x4 that acts surprised when he gets caught dog fighting again. He's done it his entire life.

Hmm, millions in debt vs. rich again vs. laying off dog fighting for awhile.

And people think he's turned a new over a new leaf? He's a changed person? Come the **** on. He's the same piece of crap he was before, but his accountant got inside his head.

Somewhere between medium rare and medium, depending if they're hamburger? ;)

I don't think anyone on this board or in America for that matter is contending that what he did was right. Everyone more or less realizes how inhumane and cruel what he did was. Does that mean he should never be forgiven?

I believe he is the leading vote getter for the pro bowl as well, so it seems to show that most of America has forgiven the man and are willing to accept that he paid for his actions and should be given another chance.

Yes, because the Pro Bowl vote is a great indicator of America's consciousness.

He should be forgiven???? For what? Figuring out that if he didn't cut dogfighting out of his life for the rest of his time in the NFL he was going to exchange millions of dollars for a life of poverty?

Wow, good job Vick. Stand up move. You got caught, denied everything, cut a plea deal, and then didn't kill any dogs for awhile. Damn, where can I throw my wreaths of laurel where they'll be noticed?
