There is not one NFL head coach that has had success at a major college in the past. Gone are Butch Davis (Miami), Erickson (Miami), Saban (LSU), Spurrier (Florida), etc...

Where is that super star college coach now having success in the NFL?

Not now, but Jimmy Johnson was a college coach...... so it's not impossible. I agree with you however, I want either Grimm or Rivera{sp}, I keep hearing the name Wade Phillips, I wouldn't be thrilled with it, but I don't think I'd be too upset either though.

He is the ONLY one in the last 15 years, unless you want to count Switzer in there. The list of failures in much longer.

Give me an up and coming OC or DC, but NOT a college head coach.

To me, the exception might be a guy like Weis or Carroll. Guys who have been in the NFL before. However, I don't know why you would ever want to come back to the NFL if you know what it's about. Especially if you have a great situation in College. JMO.

The only college coaches I would be interested in are the ones that came from the NFL in the first place. I would not be upset with someone like a Les Miles. The only problem I see would be, they would be under JJ thumbs the whole time. That is why I think we need to go with a proven coach or at least a very hot OC/DC that would have some barganing power for his contract.

the only thing i will say about that is how many of these college coaches went to good teams, most of them went to bad teams, this is such an unusual job right now because theres talent there, its not like the raiders or the lions, a job like this in this situation doesnt come around often.

Most teams that are good don't go looking for coaches. :)
We are in a good situation in that respect. That is unless we all just 'think' our team has good players.

In the last 10 years, there have been 15 different coaches who took their team to the Super Bowl.

All 15 were NFL coaches or coordinators immediately prior to being hired.
7 had been head coaches before with other franchises (a.k.a. "re-treads")
None were working in the college ranks at the time they were hired.

thats my point when camp got fired 4 years ago we were as bad as anyone in the league, you can win with this team and win big now.

Which is why you don't hand the reigns over to someone who has never coached in the NFL before and pray he is one of the 10% who actually manage to make the transition without flaming out.

Actually a College coach could be good for a team that needs rebuilding, like JJ coming here in 1989 and drafting all of those players he saw and knew from his college coaching days. He didn't draft nearly as well in Miami because he was outta the college ranks much longer, at least that is my theory.

We have been rebuilding for 4 years now, time to improve on the talent we have (with some turnover this year) but we are not in a full blown rebuilding mode right now. Hense us drafting 22nd.

To add to this, I don't follow college well enough to even choose a coach.

Bill Belichick was awful in Cleveland.

True but the talent in Clevland was terrible. The talent in NE was what Belichick took to the superbowl :D
