Detroit offered a 1st, 2nd, 4th in the 2011 draft to move up for Peterson. Arizona declined.

That's a pretty steep price. Was Arizona smart in not accepting the trade?

I say no. With the 13th they could have Gabbert, their second Ryan Williams, Detroit's 2nd, Titus Young. Way more value than Peterson. Rumor now is they plan to give up thier 1st next year for Kolb.

Actually, to move up as far as Detroit would have been doing... that isn't too much, really. I don't blame the Cards for not doing it.

Would've been worth it.

Sometimes a team likes a guy so much that it would take something Walker-esque to make them move.

Had Dallas been at 5 I bet we wouldn't have traded down either.

people get caught up in the "coulda" -- Az got a guy who has a great shot at being an elite CB. You take 1 elite over a couple of good any day of the week. you will always have the chance to add good players. You rarely have the chance to get someone who is or who projects to be elite

I love pp but I wouldn't have gave up close to that. I would have done a first a third and 6th that bout it

1st as in a swap?

That's not a bad price, a 2nd and 4th to move from 13 to 5?

The difference between 5th overall and 13th overall is roughly 550 points, which is the equivalent of the 2nd pick in the 2nd round, which the Lions obviously didn't have, hence their trying to throw the 4th in.

A similar offer from us would have been a 3rd and an even lower pick, perhaps a 5th this year vs the Lions 4th next year. Too lazy to do the math.

If we had offered 1st, 2nd, and 4th, it would have been notably more valuable than the same offer from the Lions. I think they would have accepted it.

They should have jumped all over that deal. THey play in a horrific division where some extra draft picks could help them dominate the NFC West.

Even if PP is all world, he's still just one DB. All a team has to do is attack the other 3 that will be on the field. Take the picks.

Absolutely no way do I move from 5 to 13 for a 2nd and 4th..that is far from a steep price

you're not losing a #1 you're swapping #1's .. so basically you are dealing a #2 & #4 for the right to get patrick peterson .. that sounds pretty fair to me

Word that Atlanta offered Az a deal similar to the Cleveland one and they passed. At least that what is the local radio station was saying.

Actually Detroit is pretty lucky that Zona didn't accept. There's no way they would have thought Fairley would fall to them, and they still got an impact player while keeping those two extra picks.

Arizona really needs a difference maker so I can see why they did not do it, but they need a lot of pieces to make that team better and they would have taken a QB or a very good defensive lineman, maybe Fairley, if they swapped so either way is a pretty nice situation.

I just hope Philly doesn't get a first rounder next season for Kolb, AZ will be a high pick most likely and we don't need them having two first round picks next year.

Detroit will probably be going hard after Nnamdi in free agency..
Then they'd better make the pot extra sweet. Nnamdi is at a point in his career where he is chasing rings, not money. It would take a lot for him to move from one losing organization to another.

I never saw what Hoss and others claimed they saw about Peterson and I watched every game I could.

Most knew the price would be steep as far as what Arz did? They got their man one who was considerd by some as the best in the draft.

What's the purpose of the draft or a higher position in the draft? To get the best player still available.

If you think Peterson is going to be a shut-down corner in the mold of a Revis, for example, why would you trade down, increasing your error rate in picking the best available player?

You always go for the best player. Quality over quantity.

By the way, people tend to get caught up in the number of picks.

The Cardinals would really have been getting only a 2nd round pick as a pick of substance.

Kolb for a 1st?

Who are these boneheads? Why would anyone give up a high 1st for Kolb

Has proven nothing in a friendly Qb system like Phillies

Im not saying Kolb cant be a good QB....he can....but I would never give up a 1st for him.
