... not saying I'm against, but I'm just wondering:

Do you envision a secondary consisting of CB Orlando Scandrick, S Jalen Ramsey, S Byron Jones and CB Brandon Carr?

The reason I ask is because I can't see Dallas keeping Carr if it drafts Ramsey. So the starting secondary more likely would be Scandrick, Jones, Barry Church and Ramsey.

Why not? You need three corner and Scandrick can return to being the slot corner.

Carr is here one more year.

Carr is not getting cut. Thats a shady move by the FO after the paycut and eliminates other players/agents from considering taking one in the future.

We'd have three corners with Scandrick, Ramsey/Jones and Claiborne. Dallas is paying a high salary to Carr and I just don't see him being kept if the team also invests another first-round pick into the secondary.

Been out of pocket the past few days, so I did not see that he had agreed to a paycut.

So, I agree that it is unlikely the team would cut him now and this thread can be deleted.

I don't see any way we cut Carr this year. Ramsey's an interesting pick for us because he gives us a lot of options. We'd have 3 decent press CBs and a single-high S with range before even putting him on the field, so we could look at doing what AZ does and putting him in as a coverage LB who can tackle on key passing downs. We can play him on the outside against teams where we want size. Marinelli has shown that, when he does blitz, he likes to bring a DB, and Ramsey would be perfect for that. He can steal snaps from Carr or in the nickel package or from Wilcox or Heath at S. Or he might straight-up take a starting CB or S position sometime during the year.

Basically, with a player this good, you add him to the mix and worry about how to play him later. Especially in a secondary that's got three significant starting jobs up for grabs next season at positions where it's best to have a year in the offense before playing significant snaps.

the safety's (Jones & Ramsey) would have position flex when teams go into 5 WR sets or multiple TE sets, and then you would need all of them on the field at the same time...I have no problem with having that

Carr definitely isn't getting cut

Forget positions, just play matchups if that's your secondary.

Big outside WR: Ramsey
Pass Carching TE: Byron
Slot WR: Scandrick
RB: Lee
Everyone else: Carr and Mo

Not too shabby and gets us out of that horrific soft zone that gives up 10 yard passes like they are nothing. Would love to see Ro freed up and blitzing more too, we are going to need all the help we can get getting pressure with our line.

I am not trying to be difficult, I genuinely don't get the point of this thread. Are you essentially asking whether or not we prefer a secondary with Ramsey in it?

Scandrick is coming off a ACL, Carr and Claiborne are on 1 year deals. That's all the vision I need.

Also, drafting him saves us from having to spend 10-15 mill a year on a quality corner. We get him for 4 mill a year and can spend money elsewhere.

With the amount of nickel and dime we play, I'm not sure that it matters.

The 4th pick is getting a 25 million contract this year. Its 4 million this year, but he's going to average around 6 million AAV during the course of the contract.

I would expect the long game to be Ramsey/Scandrick at corner with Jones/later draft pick at S.

His salary was lowered with a pay cut

I want DBs drafted at every single pick. Maybe after the defense shows no improvement, Jerry will realize that the pass rush is what is lacking.

Carr took a paycut. They are not cutting him. Church and Wilcox already started losing snaps last season. That is the writing on the wall.

I think he knows that and I think if all things were even that we would take DL over DB but all things aren't even. Ramsey is much better as a prospect than Bosa or Rankins.
