One of the true tough guys of the business.

Several stories out there about his hijinks outside the squared circle.

Slater was more than competent in the ring. At one point he was in consideration for the NWA world title.

As a side note "The Mormon Giant" Don Leo Johnathan passed away a few days ago.

Johnathan is considered the first successful "giant" of the business.

While never a world champion he wrestled all over the globe and was a draw either as a face or a heel.

He's also one of the few wrestlers to hold a pin-fall victory over Andre the Giant.

Below is a tag match featuring Johnathan and Andre in the then WWWF, 1973.

Yeah Slater was one of my favorites. He was a "battler type" but could wrestle with a nice offensive arsenal.
