After Tremendous Week 1 Performance, Tony Romo Proves He's Among NFL's Most Valuable

Some may call this overreaching. One single game in a 17-week schedule can’t possibly dictate whether a player will become an MVP candidate. That’s an obvious deterrent to focusing an article on this topic less than a week after the regular season started. I can envision the reaction to a sudden inclusion of one of the most enigmatic quarterbacks into a list that doesn’t even exist yet. It’s kind of like going to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without checking to see if you have any bread.

With Tony Romo, the bread seems stale. The narrative we have read regarding the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is one that’s about as worn out as the idea of a landline telephone. “He can’t win the big game,” some say. Meanwhile, others have concluded that Romo falters when it counts the most. Like most narratives around the professional world, it’s up to a specific player to prove any falsehoods wrong.

Few callers on the radio a little bit ago:

Caller 1 - That Romo sucks, tried to give the game away like he always does. Threw more interceptions like he always does. He also bobbled another snap, got lucky because he didn't get rushed.

Caller 2 - I bet my life that Mariotta reaches elite status before Romo. Heck, he is already better than Tony now, he has the "it" factor.

Caller 3 - If it wasn't for Witten, Dallas chokes again because turnover Tony appeared. Add two more INT's to his resume, he has to be ranked the worst in that category.

Caller 4(just throwing this one in, too funny) - San Francisco is stacked this season. They will win at least 13 matches and get home court advantage in the final match in Oakland 50. SMH

Anyways, people are stupid..............no one can change their minds on Romo's narrative, it is just not possible :(

I was listening to the radio in a cab in Dallas and even the host was talking about the "risky throws" and Tony's turnovers. It's like he didn't even watch the game.

Tony was masterful last night, his awareness of the D and what they where trying to do was Payton good and what can you say about the last drive.

Unfortunately people who don't know anything or watch the games, repeat what they hear and that usually comes from perceptions that are years old.

Romo had a fantastic year last year and looks to be primed to have another.

To change far reaching public perception will take a SB win.

Tony Romo and Michael Irvin are my two favorite players of all time. Why? Because I've spent the better part of my adult life defending those two Cowboys from haters, and that has made me root for them every time they appear on television. I like being right!

Nowadays, I don't even bother defending Romo. I just shrug and quietly lose respect for the person saying stupid things.

It would take multiple wins. IT is so ingrained now in the media and in idiotic fans that he would probably have to win SB MVP three years in a row to really change it. Look at the moronic haters we have right on this board.

trying to remember who it was, used to be a scout I think (not Broaddus) who said he used the Romo procedure to decide if someone knew anything about football. When meeting a new guy he would work in a way to get the guy to say what he thought about Tony Romo. If the guy said he was a top QB then he figured the guy actually knew football. If he spewed the usual garbage he just smiled and moved on.

That's where I'm at.

They know nothing of the Cowboys or it's just an unhealthy hate.

Los Angeles but they were national callers.

Ok...that is somewhat understandable. Because he wears the star, I expect a lot of hate from the opposing fan base. Aaron Rodgers could be the QB of the Dallas Cowboys and they would find ways to criticize him. The media feeds that beast so I can expect a lot of it from all of the talking heads. What I can't understand are Cowboy fans who can't separate the media noise from reality and not realize how special Romo is. They are the worst of the Romo critics in my opinion

Funny how most of success Romo's success was because of the running game and the line last year.

Today Dan Lebatard on highly questionable said something along the lines "no other QB in the league gets to play QB like Romo, in that forget about sacks, no one gets to even touch him".

Even with a super bowl, tony romo just won't get the respect he truly deserves.

Romo was like a Jedi last night. He was calling the NYG blitzes and was so cool it was scary at at times. The hardest hit he took was on the Street INT and the cheap shot on the last drive.
