Developing a definitive “best of all time” list requires a densely thorough thought process, one which must take into account both subjective and objective angles when constructing a list of this type. As it pertains to rock bands, there are several gray areas as far as who or what is even considered to be “rock.” In the case of this list, the bands chosen and considered are from major sub-genres of rock, be it classic rock, blues-rock, hard-rock, heavy metal, alt-rock or punk.

To keep matters streamlined the bands included in this list are all bands, not individual artists or solo rock acts (i.e. Elton John, Neil Diamond, etc.). With that in mind the main criteria for this list is focused on rock groups whose musical work has remained timeless over the years and is predominantly still relevant within the modern music industry.

Rage for the Machine doesn't belong on any list that doesn't say top bands that suck.
Grand Funk Railroad belongs somewhere on that list. They are woefully underrated.
There are a few bands on that list that aren't rock bands.

This is so opinionated it's futile to even make list. Queen at #3 and ahead of the Rolling Stones is unabashed recency bias. If someone made a cool movie about the Stones, would they vault to #1? A case could be made without them, there would be no Queen or Led Zeppelin.

Stones and Beatles are hit and miss for me, but they should be 1 and 2. They blew the doors open for everyone else. No matter of their music isnt for you, you have to respect their impact

Definitely one of my favorite Aerosmith songs. Testament did a pretty good cover of it.

Lists like this are always pointless, ask 10,000 rock fans their top ten ever rock bands and you won't get 2 identical. "The best" of anything is just a personal opinion, there's no wrong and right.

My personal preferences aside, there are bands that are listed too high, and bands that shouldn't be in the top 30...Oasis?...Really ?

I saw Oasis at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2005 and got tickets for August. Great show, Highly recommend it.
