Actually projecting our final roster is really too easy at this point. We forget the Cowboys already moved out a lot of dead wood when they cut/traded or failed to resign 10 players out of a 53 man roster; that's about a 19% turnover rate. Gone are JuliusJones/TThompson/Hoyte/Glenn & Ferguson/Ayodele/Fasano/Reeves/Jones/KeithDavis (only Davis was somebody they would have wanted to keep).

The 10 players have been replaced by FelixJones/TashardChoice/Zack Thomas/M.Bennett/MikeJenkins/OrlandoScandrick/AdamJones/EricWalden are certainly upgrades over those departed. So, unless I forgot somebody we've cut/somebody we've added, there only 2 slots max which available. The decision rests on how/where they will be distributed.

Was going to say here's my list of "bubble" players. But the reality is that none of our undrafted/unsigned players are a threat to any of the guys who were on the roster at the end of the 07 season. My best guess is DL Bowen & OG/C Proctor are on the bubble. The problem is that no undrafted FA player nor any vet FA has shown enough to become a threat to anybody on the roster. We may not be happy with the play of Burnett, Carpenter and a few others, but there's no way we cut them unless we've got a better player to replace them. That still leaves us with 2 slots to fill & their ability to play ST is a big part of the decision. It does surprise me how few, if any, of the players we brought in have looked any good.

Best guess at this point what we will do:
1) carry 7 CBs - Newman/Henry/Jenkins/Adams/Scandrick/Oglesby/Ball
2) carry 5 S's - Hamlin/RWilliams/Brown/Watkins/Davis
Added personnel at those 2 positions uses up the 2 slots still avaible.
or
3) carry 3 QBs - Romo/Johnson/Bartel or pick up a young experienced
vet
4) carry 6 WRs - only if Amendola or another WR steps it up or a good WR suddenly becomes available; doubt if latter happens
5) carry 2 FBs - if Cruz or Coleman show good ST skills
6) carry an extra LB if George T. steps it up

BTW: I really do think there's every possibility Jerry is keeping an ear to the ground re trading for a need player who can help us (not talking about a WR) particularly a pretty good vet who can play several OL positions, particularly at C or a QB.

I don't think Ball stands a chance after watching his play.

D Davis has got to perform on ST to make us keep 5 S

so I think:
2 QB's
4 RB's
9 OL
3 TE
6 WR

7 DL
8 LB
5 S
6 CB

+ P,K and LS

I think the bigger question is going to be who is active on gameday. Picking that 45 is going to be tough. I think Choice is going to have to play good special teams to be active most games.

Choice,Amendola,Stanback,Oglesby,Davis,Brown,Walden,Bowen,Bennett are going to be in a battle for that last active spot every week.

tim "pacmahon" of DMN thinks oglesby will still get cut inspite of being one of the top players at TC because he is 3 inches shorter than Ball.

Ok, I think we've made some upgrades dude, but not all of them! Also, Ferguson was a big-time player. He was only let go for $ reasons. Bennett and Walden hasn't proved anything!! Nothing!!! At this point, I would love to have Fasano back, even if it's 3rd string. Hopefully, they will work out, but those two haven't proved crap at this point.

There was rookie Danny Amendola fumbling a punt return, which led to a Chargers score.

Then Alonzo Coleman, who hadn't returned a kickoff since high school, bobbled a ball on a kick return. There was a lack of containment from the punt and kick return units.

Read said he used up to 30 different players, mostly rookies and second-year players, on the special team units.
At one point, Patrick Watkins, the team's leading tackler last season on special teams, , was about five to six yards ahead of some of the younger players. Watkins isn't considered that fast.

A lack of speed from some of the rookies and second-year players was the main problem for the units Saturday night.

"Our punt coverage was poor," Phillips said. "It's something we need to work on. We did not work our first group because they were already out of the game by the first time we punted. It gave some young guys an opportunity which they didn't take advantage of."

YOU CAN PIECE AWAY A BUNCH OF CUTS RIGHT IN THIS GROUP...

I think your first roster is likely although I'm still not convinced Amendola is ready for primetime.

One thing to remember is what the 3-4 needs the most and that is LBs esp OLBs.

Who is going to run the ball if MB is nicked up too bad to play or has to leave the game for xrays yada. Felix and Anderson the only active players??? TC will be on the active roster esp if we keep only one FB.

With the ST fiasco Saturday, players who make plays are going to have a better chance to make this teams 53 roster and be active on game day. You cannot afford to excel at O and D and suck at STs. You'll die of field position.
