Today, I ran into a guy who played for Baylor from 1998 to 2001. He played on the offensive line and we talked for about an hour. I am 6'2" and he made me look small :( He is a Cowboys fan, so he watches our line closely. He never made it pro, he tore up his shoulder and biceps but was going to enter the draft. I can't remember his name for the life of me though, met many people.

I asked him his opinion on our line and T. Williams. He went over each position and said we are far better off than the last few seasons. In his opinion, Free was key. If he could turn it around, this line would show a lot of improvement. He really likes Fred, says he is the anchor for years to come. He doesn't think the Waters acquisition will be the big move that puts the line into the above average/good range. He thinks he is almost done yet still better than whoever else they could put there. He is a one year cork and doesn't expect him to play another year. He didn't talk much about the secondary but said they need one blue chipper to play next to Church, preferably a ball hawk.

I asked about Mo and he basically said that he is a confused young man being pulled in several directions. His only way of becoming that elite corner is by going to man, press coverage. That is his skill-set.

He think Dallas should draft a guard in the first two rounds and find a FA to man the other spot if Waters is indeed done. He believes that a DE/DL should be the other pick in those rounds. He has no worries about Tyron, says he is still maturing and will get even better and to expect him to man that spot for the next 10 years.

The linebackers

He thinks Lee will find his groove(said playing decent as of now) once he learns the 4-3 but that Carter may never be right. He excels in the 3-4 and can not be relied on to cover anyone outside the flats. He thinks they need to address that in the draft and get a speed guy.

T. Williams

He is surprised that he has taken this long to adjust. He usually picks up on schemes rather quickly but there is one gaping hole in his game.....he drops passes and uses his body too much. He "thinks" he will be a good one but it will take time and said they threw him into the mix too early, irregardless of WR injuries.

Now, I tried to avoid this one, but he wanted to talk RGIII. He sees him going one of two ways.

1. Three more years and finished due to another knee injury.

2. Twelve year career if they minimize his runs and make him a pocket passer. He mentioned that he can do that part well enough but he thinks the coaches want the latter, which will ruin him.

Just thought it was interesting to get a perspective from someone who has played at that level, especially on the off line.

Yes -- it means not conforming to normal requirements.

No, it doesn't. If you break it down, it means "with regard to," since "ir" is a negative. But it's not really a word, it's really a *******ized combination of regardless and irrespective.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to get an informed opinions outside of the board usuals. That's why I miss couchscout so much. I don't know for sure but I think all the negativity that gets on this board sometimes drove him into hiding.

Irregardless? Is that a word?

Who cares? :D

Dex, your buddy is a smart guy. I love reading thoughtful insight. There's never enough of it. Thanks for the post!

On Griffin3: I think his injury has brought the read option crowd back to earth, league-wide. All these coaches are scared crapless of losing their franchise QB to a running play. Prob is, it remains to be seen how good some of these guys are without the read option as a significant part of their gameplans. Wilson is the only one still thriving, and he never ran much RO.

did he have anything to say about Tyron or Leary?

He said Tyron will only get better and not to worry about LT for awhile. As for Leary, he was not sure what to expect. He can't tell if he can hold a guard spot down or needs to be a back-up. Basically, a new starting guard needs to be drafted, a good one and the best man win the other side. whether it is a FA or someone already on the roster.

Irregardless, well I guess we can chalk that one up there with "I could care less" rather than "I could not care less". o_O

Physically speaking, isn't Carter playing to his strengths as a weakside LB in this scheme?

I would appreciate some insight as I don't really understand all the responsibilities of the players in this scheme, but leading up to the season it seemed like people thought his speed would allow him to be a play maker, and shouldn't that same speed allow him to cover well also? Is Carter simply lacking mentally, or is there something else I'm missing?

Other than that I think Carter is salvageable, I agree with everything he said. If the FO thinks Carter is unsalvageable for this scheme they should get a pick for him and trade him now. He played 4-3 at UNC so I dont get it. Tell me Gabe Jackson wouldnt look good in Cowboy uni next year.

Sounds like he knows his stuff.

Disagree with him on Carter. Carter is a "speed" guy.

And agreed 100% on Terrance Williams. I don't know why he was even drafted when it's clear as day that the guy can't catch. He's not TO where his talent will make up for his drops, he's more Kevin Ogletree/Quincy Morgan.
