mine is always ready to go.

I dont know about the slide action...its great. And as far as FTE...I've never had a failure in over 600 rounds. And its not a knock-off of anything, esp glock. The only thing thats close to a glock is like a springfield XD. very similar guns.

I'm glad you like yours. I don't like them at all.

My problem with that mentality, is like my 1911...you can sit down just right and flick the safety off and not know it.

I always treat a gun like its hot and will go bang if I pull the bang switch with my booger hook.

Well, then you have to look at your 1911 as if it doesn't have a safety. What brand is it? I was looking at picking up a 1911 at some point. A friend of mine's brother said I should look at a Kimber.

The real question is why was it loaded?

Exactly. I'm always astounded by how many people violate the most basic of firearm safety rules. You don't just carry around a loaded firearm in a bag. I know of people who have left a loaded handgun on their kitchen counter. These are people with children. I mean, come on! If you're going to own a firearm, learn and live by all the safety rules. People's lives depend on it.

My 1911 is a springfield emp. And I def treat all my guns as there is no safety. They are all stored or carried in weapon sleeves, holsters or pouches that have trigger guards for that purpose.

Kimber used to be really good but their quality has gone down some since they were bought out. Still a good gun...just not the same from when their name became popular.

I love the Springfield EMP's and the Sig P938 is awesome as well.

A 1911 has several safety features, one of which is the fact that you can not fire it accidentally if you don't actually have your hand around the grip. There is a grip safety on that pistol and it must be depressed in order for the weapon to fire so you couldn't just pick it up and accidentally fire it.

If you can get your hands on an early model Colt, that is a really good 1911. I wouldn't buy one made after 1885. If you are just looking for a good quality .45, I would consider an H&K. They make a really nice .45 hand gun. JMO

The H&K .45s are definitely nice but a little weird looking. I like Glocks though so it doesn't bother me. My favorite 1911 is the one I can buy used from an experienced gun owner since he will have all the kinks worked out. They're great guns but it's not uncommon to have to do some adjustments to a 1911 to get it to function properly. The last one I had loved to eject brass into my forehead. Even had a hot one get stuck at the top of my glasses, causing a nice little burn. :)

It does not have to be a 1911 just because its a .45.

I have a .40 that has 0 safeties, though it is a double action trigger, and it always has a trigger guard on it.

1911 have many safeties a standard lever safety on the frame and a grip safety so the gun has to have pressure on the back of the grip for the firing mechanism to work when the trigger is pulled. A lot of newer guns do not come with lever safeties or external safeties many have what are trigger safeties and it does not take much to engage the trigger safety and for it to fire. Guns with good examples of a trigger safety is the Glock but no external lever/traditional safety on a pistol. Rule one of gun ownership know your gun, respect your gun.

All that being said if I was going to carry my pistol loaded in a bag it would have holster on it that has solid retention so nothing could work its way into the trigger guard.

1911 with internal extractors is much more predictable than ones with external extractors. I am actual getting parts togethor to build my own 1911. Going old school with internal extractor instead of the more easily mass produced external extractor models.

My S&W M&P 9 with Apex tactical trigger is very close to a glock with the way the trigger works and it also is now a 3.5 Pound trigger. My model has no safety besides the trigger safety

You would be surprise at how many gun owner have an IQ under 100. (No, I'm not insulting all gun owners, I'm not anti-gun) The issue is, dumb people think guns make themselves cool. They do not.

Look around around facebook with many morons posing with gun point at their own head with the finger on the trigger. I wish I still had it but a moron posted a pic of him pointing a loaded pistol at the person taking the photo, the flash reflected off the chambered round in the barrel and the dudes finger was on the trigger.

You can buy the kimber or save yourself $500 and buy a Ruger, Springfield, or Remington or "Standard" Colt 1911, performance wise there will not be a huge gap between the kimber and the ones named, definitely not $500+ dollars worth performance gap.

The best ones are the automatic revolvers.
