Packers president says NFL owners are done negotiating

Although NFL players didn't vote on the deal ratified by NFL owners, Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy said the owners are done negotiating.

“We’ve put our pens down,” Murphy told Kareem Copeland of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “We’ve negotiated in good faith with the union. We’ve reached an agreement on all the key points.

“They know what we ratified and they’re voting to ratify the same thing.”
“I would be surprised if they don’t ratify,” Murphy said. “That’s really our hope, that they do. If they don’t, we’ll deal with that when it comes.

“We certainly want to have a full preseason and not miss any preseason games.”

I think they will. I understand the need of the NFLPA* to make sure what they are voting on, but I think once they are done reviewing it they will be satisfied and will vote yes.

I certainly hope so. At this point I'm a little gun shy to the idea of it almost being over cause people have said "It's close, it's not close, we're getting there, we're not anywhere near" for so long now that i just don't trust any of them. lol

From watching NFLN last night it seems all the points on the CBA are what was negotiated by the Owners and NFLPA. The big hang up is the anti trust case with Manning and Brady, the lawsuit for the TV contract and how the union will recertify.

I am soooo sick of this....lets just have football already!!

The owners have given up more than I thought they would. The players need to get their ***** in gear and re-certify ASAFP! Jeff Saturday and Foxworth along with Mawae and others knew the parameters of the new CBA and knew the owners were going to ratify. Smith was in constant contact with Goodell on everything.

It was all about, we have a process and we don't have a timeline we need to move on......the owners may, but we don't.

I got the feeling they want to stall, they want to delay this some to put the heat back on the owners. Get them in a position to lose rev from missed preseason games to perhaps get a little something more.

If that's the case the owners need to stand pat, say screw them, and start making deals to host concerts, college games, boxing events, wrestling events, things of that nature in their stadiums over the next year.

The owners will still make money that way and the players, who are dragging their feet wanting that little bit more, can sit at home making nothing.

This sours me on football and it will have a lasting effect on the way everyone views the players and the game.

Football players wanting to be everything other than athletes is a laughing joke for the ages, that isn't very funny. Not many are ever going to forget the phoney punch line.

People make judgements from actions like the players are taking while considering our own lives and how we choose to live them. If you give the players too much controll Pro football could lose everything.

This really is annoying. To be honest I just don't get the whole process. I really don't care about the process. All I care about is x's and o's not dollars and cents. But, to me this is something that should have never even went this far.

I understand that being in a union helps the players get benefits and all that but to keep asking for more is getting real untolerable.. Living in Illinois there is a union for everything. I could not even imagine if members of the local electricians group wanted better working conditions like not working when it is more than 40% humidity out or temperatures below 40. We would never get any work done around here. Your job is your job. You are blessed with talent that most of us would die for. You play a game. And you get paid very handsome to play a game. The owners own the team you play for. If you don't like your job then try doing something else. I know you want additional rewards for your risk of injury and retirement. But ask the electrician how hard his job is when he is at the top of the pole with enough power to force a closed casket burial what his risks are. Ask the construction guys who are out in this 100 degree temperature with 95% humidity working on the freeways praying that no idiot is on his phone and disregards his surroundings.. ask him how hard and difficult his job is. But to demand no 2 a days and less contact and less this and less that and more money and more days off and all that is just not comprehendable to me. If I was to go to my job and tell my employer that it is just to hot out and I need more money to work outside from now on, he would tell me to kick sand and collect my final check on friday. The unions are built to protect its members. Not to diminish the job. THEY SIGNED UP FOR THIS JOB WHEN THEY ENTERED THE DRAFT OR SIGNED WITH THE TEAM.

I apologize for the rant but dang this is just crazy. We go to work to work no matter what the risks are and what the conditions are. And the harder you work the better the results, and each one of these owners deserve to have hard working employees for the millions they have invested in their teams.

If I were the owners, I would tell the players that training camp starts next Wednesday show up if you want to play, if you don't show up, we will find someone who wants to be paid millions of dollars to play football!

This would force the players to show up or go on strike! Either way, they would have to reconstitute the union.

I would certainly expect the D. Smith and the player reps to fully examine the language of the proposed deal to make sure it's agreeable to... I can't blame the players at all.
