Former players-smart low cost buys or progress stoppers?

I identified a few former Cowboys players that remain free agents, would they be smart, low cost buys or become progress stoppers:

Cooper WR-since they failed to draft a capable #2 receivers and have younger prospects still in the developmental stage, makes sense to add Cooper as a bridge player. We know him /Dak worked well with one another in the past.

Gilmore CB-we just don't know when the likes of Diggs and Revel will be fully ready to return. Adding Gilmore would allow the team to bring them back slowly and not rush their return and have any setbacks.

Hankins DT-a good mentor to both Mazi and our younger prospects at the position. Might become more of a progress stopper, but he still remains a good 2 down player.

Kendricks LB-this is all about competition. I'm not a fan of the trade for Murray and believe he is a downgrade at the position. They view it otherwise, but he does strengthen team depth.

None of these players will break the bank and could be released if a player on this roster proves they are better. Adding veteran leadership to
such a young roster, makes sense.
I think they need to spend their cap space.

Granted its Fish, but he said his sources say Amari is fake news. Said Cowboys see him as a "jag" (sources words)

Tyreek Hill is a guy I wouldn't sleep on. I dont think the draft compensation is going to be what people think it is. A 4th wouldn't surprise me

I also wonder if DJ Moore is a possibility. They have Odunze and just drafted Burden

Very possible, you also said that very thing yesterday. I think players on their last yr of their contracts are the ones that can be had or they lose them for nothing if not resigned

If you are waiting for the cavalry and it's Old Man Hankins that comes over the hill, that's not exactly a great sign.

Still don’t understand the comp formula as we never have gotten more then a 4th
We did get a 3rd for Jones. I believe we were on track with Quinn as well, but he got bumped down. Iirc Quinn got bumped because some players leapfrogged salary wise

Bringing back Hankins to me would be an admission of stupidity. DT has been a weakness for so long and they just refuse to do anything about it. They need to come up with amore lasting solution. I am tired of this notion that we can overcome the problem by just outscoring everyone.

I see a lot of progress stoppers. Sign a guy only if we need to fill out a roster because of injury etc.

We aren’t winning the Super Bowl, we’re not making the NFC championship… we probably aren’t making the playoffs.

We have to find out who should be a Cowboy next season and moving forward. You can’t determine that in a handful of game snaps and practice. This is a familiar face but new head coach, new offensive coordinator, familiar but new defensive coordinator among other new coaches like Oline etc.

Play Jonathan Mingo, Jalen Tolbert, Kavonte Turpin in the slot, Paris Campbell, Javonte Williams, Phil Mafah, Jayden Blue, Deuce Vaughn, give Luepke some carries, Mazi Smith, Jay Toia, Justin Rogers, Kaiir Elam, Guyton at LT and RT, Shemar James, Marshawn Kneeland, Marist Liufatau, play Joe Milton almost all preseason and if Dak is hurt don’t sign a veteran to start, Keneth Murray, Jack Sanborn and others.

We have a new coaching staff and about half the roster needs evaluation. Put the new and young guys out there and let’s see what we have moving forward. If we’re a 7 win team who cares if we can be an 8 win team by adding a WR, LB etc. Try and find some solid future starters, weed out the guys that aren’t a good fit, collect that earlier draft pick and roll over our cap space. Plan to make some noise in 2026.

Define 'low cost' player? What round did Bob Hayes and Roger Staubach come in...

There are no vet FA players out there right now that is a difference maker.
So yes they would be progress stoppers at this point.

They will go with who they have right now. Need to see what they can and cannot do.
In order for them to be progress stoppers, we need to be making progress. You frikkin homer! Lol

Effort needed with Diggs rehabbing and Lewis gone. The Cowboys were thin at corner entering the draft. With so many receivers playing in spread formations today, you need three starting-caliber corners, not two. If Revel can get healthy in time for training camp, he could be competing for snaps from Day 1.

In a league increasingly defined by the ability to slow down elite passing attacks, a healthy Revel could be the missing piece that keeps Dallas from crumbling under pressure in January. He’s got the length, the instincts, the toughness—and, crucially, a team that believes in him.

Diggs, Bland, and Revel may be top shelf at cornerback and depth filling in. This could have major stabilizing effect for this year's defense.

They still have high expectations of Mazi becoming that guy, but all they have behind him are green prospects. Adding a veteran as a backup isn't admitting a mistake. However, I agree, they should of use higher resources to address the position.

Didn't realize that. As it stands right now, only looking at more late rd comp picks for our losses.
