Luke Swan's Official Website :: Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver

Former Badger and a Fennimore, Wis. Native, Luke Swan has signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs following the conclusion of the 2008 NFL Draft. Swan suffered a potentially career-ending hamstring injury at Illinois on October 6, 2007. Since then he has been rehabbing after a successful surgery and has done a lot to impress coaches and scouts alike with his rapid recovery. Swan finished his career with 60 receptions for 1,046 yards and seven touchdowns.

“I’m looking forward to minicamp and moving down to Kansas City to continue my football career,” said Swan. “It’s very exciting to be a part of a professional team playing the sport you love.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luke is a native of Fennimore, Wisconsin, where he was a standout at Fennimore High School in football, basketball, baseball, and track. As a senior, Luke captained both his football and basketball teams. He finished his high school career with 121 receptions, for 2,234 yards and 26 touchdowns, along with 18 interceptions as a defensive back. For his efforts, Luke was a two-time All-State, All-Conference, and All-Area selection. Additionally, Luke was a two-time All-Conference basketball selection, two-time conference long jump champion, and won titles in the 100-meter dash, 300 intermediate hurdles, and 200-meter dash. In the classroom, Luke was a member of the National Honor Society and named Who's Who Among High School Student Athletes. Luke graduated from Fennimore High School in 2003, and moved on to the University of Wisconsin where he was redshirted.

In 2004, as a redshirt freshman, Luke appeared in 1 game. Additionally, Luke contributed to the success of the team through his hard work as a member of the scout team. For his efforts, he was named scout offensive player of the week vs. UCF.

In 2005, as a sophomore, Luke appeared in 8 games as a reserve receiver earning his first varsity letter. For his efforts, he received a football scholarship and he was named Academic All-Big Ten.

In 2006, as a junior, Luke appeared in all 13 games, making 10 starts at receiver. He finished the year as the team's third leading receiver with 35 receptions for 595 yards (17.0-yard average) and 5 touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named offensive player of the week on several occasions. Additionally, Luke was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 Team, Academic All-Big Ten, and won University of Wisconsin's Ivan B. Williamson Scholastic Award.

For the year, Luke started 6 games at receiver and had 25 receptions for 451 yards (18.0-yard average), a long of 43 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Luke's season was cut short after he sustained a season ending hamstring injury at Illinois after making 4 receptions for 67 yards. Luke remained a motivating factor for the team during the remainder of the season as a student-coach and addressed the team in some moving pre-game speeches. Despite only playing half of the season, Luke was the team's second leading receiver.

For Luke's career, he played in 28 games, started 16 games, had 60 receptions for 1,046 yards (17.4-yard average) and scored 7 touchdowns. Luke was born on September 5, 1984, is single, and has already graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology (December 2007).

Did he win it? Although they haven't aired the episodes, the Cowboys already know who won.

If so you might want to change the title and put "Spoiler" Winner of the 4th and Long show.

Not sure what you're basing your opinion on, numbers on a bio?

I saw nearly every game he played at Wisconsin. He has a habit of making miraculous catches, especially on the sidelines. Other than that, not much, there's a reason he wasn't drafted. But then again, many NFL players weren't drafted and turn out to be successful pro's.

jzcowboy, understand what your saying, like i said above, didnt have to much info on him, with what i found, but he doesnt have great size or speed, thats not to say he wont, because dwight clark as you know, caught the big huge catch against us in the playoffs against the 49ers, i just like a wr though that is bigger in size or if he is smaller, either faster or quicker

so, all i could find was his 4.62 speed,

He's ok. I watched him every weekend I could. He's not particularly fast and occasionally makes freakish catches. He is a good route running receiver with, generally, good hands. Definitely a gamble, but if he's got aspirations to play, who knows?

I hate to play the race card here but he's one of the rare white receivers in the mold of Beebe who played for GB and Detroit up until a few years ago.

I seem to remember Swan would get better and better as he built a repoire with the QB. He was a conversion if I remember correctly, I think he played DB or LB initially and was moved into the receiving role. He was a close friend of either Sorgi or Stocco both of whom started at QB for Wisconsin.

Personally I think its why he was in position to make some of those grabs, the QB would just "feel" where he'd be and put up an otherwise uncatchable ball that he'd come down with, seemingly more often than not.

All that said, QB and WR aren't very strong traditions in Wisconsin, and the passing game is usually almost always playing second fiddle to the running game. We did and still seem to end up with the Big Ten recruiting "cast offs" at those positions.

I definitely remember that game against Illinois when Swan was injured. Took the steam right out of the offense.

I think they missed an opportunity with that show. It should have been a collection of average joes. Not guys who once had a shot, or were close, or what have you. Real, honest to god average joes. A pizza guy, a cab driver, a janitor, a doctor who never played ball in his life, ditto a lawyer.
