Johnnie Lee Higgins Jr. may have been a little rattled last month at the NFL combine. But, back in his element Thursday for Pro Day at the Sun Bowl, he was back to being Johnnie Lee Higgins.

And it showed.

Higgins, decked out in his UTEP track uniform, ran times of 4.3 and a 4.34 seconds in the 40-yard dash, improving on his disappointing 4.48 at the combine. It was a relief to the native of Sweeny, Texas, whose stock dipped a bit after his Indianapolis effort.

"It was a different experience (at the combine), and I wasn't used to it," Higgins said. "I was happier (today). It was a little faster, which is a little bit better for me."

About seven NFL scouts were on hand Thursday: Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers (who are reportedly interested in Higgins), New York Giants, and Oakland Raiders.

************
He's projected to be a 2nd to 5th round pick. He's a burner with good hands. Despite the new contract, Glenn isn't getting younger. Plus he returns punts and kickoffs. I am a biased UTEP alum.

Oh and Palmer looked ok. He'll likely end up in oblivion (Oakland).

I do like Johnnie Lee's speed but....

Ins't this the same guy that said he was going to run a 4.1 at the combine then blazed off that 4.48

You dont say you are going to run a 4.1 then run a 4.4 or even a 4.3.

You run a 4.2 or go home looking stupid.. Which is what he did.

johnnie lee!!!!! this HAS to be our return guy. He's phenomenal. He's magic on special teams and can smoke anyone on the field. I saw him every home game he's ever played and it's like everyone is in slow motion compared to him

He got rattled going to the combine. What is he going to do on game day when there is more pressure? That is my only question since I have not seen him play. From what I have read, a 4th or 5th is not too much for his skill set. It sounds as if he is more explosive than Skyler Green.

I absolutely stunned that people buy into these pro day times like they mean something.

Reggie Nelson Timed at the combine- 4.53- Some guy with a stopwatch - 4.39

Hughes Combine 4.65 That fella with the watch 4.45

Higgnins - Combine 4.48 Stopwatch dude 4.30

Anyone else notice a pattern?

I wonder if they get the same stopwatch used to time Randal Williams in 4.04?

Thats the reason I love the combine...

Everyone on the same stage and same pressure to perform.

The studs will rise to the top and the duds will watch their stock drop, leading to firing agents on bad advice to run at combine.

Yeah, remember when Kevin Jones' dad said he would run a 4.1 at the combine? Jones sputtered two 4.6+ forty times...

How many guys have looked amazing at the combine (like say, Robert Gallery) and use that to catapult them into a higher spot, only to flop in the NFL. The combine isn't the end-all be-all. It makes sense that they'd be more comfortable in familiar surroundings during their Pro day workouts.

Their stints in the NFL are preceeded by a whole training camp which can allow them to get a hint of the pressure. It's not one-time-only deal like the combine or even pro day workouts.

they mean something but aren't by themselves something. Look at both, look at how a guy responds to his combine performance. does he work harder, does he show he's willing to put in the extra effort to prove himself? That's how you end up w/ a Tom Brady.

If he's there in the 4th or 5th, I'd like to take Higgins just b/c he does have that "something".

Here's a video of Higgins returning a punt against UAB 2seasons ago. What gets me is his burst once he hits that corner... and he seems to run so effortlessly.
