We already have one LB trying to rehab a Achilles injury. Could Arrington pass a physical?

I agree, but he might be closer to coming back than Ellis. Could be an insurance policy. You know how BP loved to have D-linement rotating out and never could find someone to spell Ware. This could be the person.

say philly puts this in the contract:

if fowler plays 5+ games in texas statium in 2007, he will be paid an extra $5mil.

that means philly won't have to pay that $5mil but the cowboys would if they matched the contract because that's where he woudl *supposed* to be playing.

it automatically means the contract will cost the cowboys more, not the same, to match.

That just seem wrong as hell!

OK, what if Fowler DOES NOT play those 5+ games in Texas Stadium, then the eagles should be forced to pay Fowler those extra $5 mil!

no - then the cowboys wouldn't - but given an 8 game season, it's likely he'll be suited up for 5 of those 8 games. the cowboys - in this example - would have to only play fowler for 4 home games, including any playoffs.

philly goes to texas stadium once, again if there's a home playoff game, that's 2 games tops they would play. they could in essence drop it to 3 games but htey'd likey put in 4 just to be safe. there's simply no way in hell he can make that "performance goal" playing for the eagles, but it's a lock for the cowboys.

Fowler was a very good special teams player for the Cowboys, I wish he'd signed somewhere other than the NFC East so I could cheer for him. :laugh2:

I got the info from the Philadelphia Daily News, the only poison pill in this contract is the $4 million due the first year. The article also called into question the futures of Trottier and Dhani Jones with Fowles making that kind of money.

Are those types of "pills" that don't affect both team equally allowed?

Yes, they are... and the NFL ought to close that loophole immediately, it makes a joke of the concept of the restricted free agent... any team, if they're willing to pay the compensation required, can construct a contract that will make it all but impossible for the old team to match the offer...

Not that I'm particularly bothered by the thought of losing Fowler... instead, I believe that the Iggles are overpaying for him seriously, if the numbers I've read in this thread are accurate... so by losing Ryan, we're able to hurt the Iggles' cap situation a little...

But he'll help their special teams... no doubt about that...

Jones and Trotter are only 1 year apart and Trotter is certainly the more productive player. If i had the chance i'd take Trotter but having 230 tkls in the last 2 years and only being 30 years old, he's still a starter in the NFL. Considering the skins gave a 32 yr old MLB 25 million i'm sure if the egirls cut either guy, they'd get good cash to start somewhere. .

I always thought Fowler had potential and what little he played always seemed to be pretty decent.

I'm afraid he may go to Philly and be pretty good because they will actually play him.

Ryan Fowler is gone

Well, it looks that way.
Fowler, who led the Cowboys in special teams tackles, agreed to an offer sheet for four years at about $10.5 million with Philadelphia on Sunday.
Fowler said he wants to start or see significant playing time at middle linebacker and that appears doubtful with Dallas.
The Cowboys have seven days to match the offer because Fowler is an unrestricted free agent. The countdown starts today. If they decline to match the offer, the Cowboys don't receive any compensation because Fowler was an undrafted free agent out of Duke.
Fowler was a good guy in the locker room and had several friends. One of my lasting memories of him is losing a wrestling match to kicker Carlos Martinez in the middle of the locker room late in the season.
Fowler was always focused on the task at hand and he will be missed.
But Dallas has some good special teams players returning in Keith Davis and Sam Hurd, so it won't hurt them that much.
Former coach Bill Parcells liked Davis' ability on special teams and also praised Fowler from time-to-time.
Dallas doesn't need to match the offer for Fowler, especially at those prices.
