Ryan Fowler is gone
Well, it looks that way.
Fowler, who led the Cowboys in special teams tackles, agreed to an offer sheet for four years at about $10.5 million with Philadelphia on Sunday.
Fowler said he wants to start or see significant playing time at middle linebacker and that appears doubtful with Dallas.
The Cowboys have seven days to match the offer because Fowler is an unrestricted free agent. The countdown starts today. If they decline to match the offer, the Cowboys don't receive any compensation because Fowler was an undrafted free agent out of Duke.
Fowler was a good guy in the locker room and had several friends.
One of my lasting memories of him is losing a wrestling match to kicker Carlos Martinez in the middle of the locker room late in the season.
Fowler was always focused on the task at hand and he will be missed.
But Dallas has some good special teams players returning in Keith Davis and Sam Hurd, so it won't hurt them that much.
Former coach Bill Parcells liked Davis' ability on special teams and also praised Fowler from time-to-time.
Dallas doesn't need to match the offer for Fowler, especially at those prices.
