Smith should be there at 9, because that is about exactly where he should fit in this draft. Jason Garrett will get his guy at pick 9, imo. (knock on wood)
I think the trade down talk is just smoke. Teams do their due their homework and game plan and have backup plans and go through scenarios, but I'm confident that Smith will be the pick at 9 if he is still there. He should be there.
Jerry Jones has the wheeling and dealing history, but at the end of the day, Smith's production on tape and his youth and high ceiling will make Dallas stay at 9 and draft him and plug and play him. Jason Garrett will get his player.
The Vikings are lurking and think that they are still a contender and will most likely go for a vet QB. The Lions are lurking. The Commanders are lurking and like Smith, right behind Dallas. Plus, the Commanders could possibly trade down and spoil a greedy move down that Dallas would be making. A team could slide to 10 and take Smith if Dallas moved down. The Eagles are lurking and are aggressive. If the Patriots move up, it will be for Tyron Smith or Marcell Dareus.
Dallas has brought all the top tiered offensive tackles in and leaked trade down talk. This could all be interpreted as mind games and a smoke screen, due to Smith's red hot rise up draft boards. Perhaps, the Cowboys do worry about getting jumped for Smith if the board broke a certain way. Smith is most likely high on Cleveland's overall board. Smith is highly most likely the highest rated OT on these boards:
Cleveland
Dallas
Washington
Houston
Minnesota
Detriot
New York Giants
Philadelphia
Atlanta
Tampa Bay
Indianapolis
The teams in bold all need OTs bad, and Smith is the handsd down elite in this class. Three of Dallas' rivals are on this list. The Giants are said to have Smith rated very high. Do the math on the aggressive Eagles and look at their left handed QB.
Tyron Smith will be the best player on the board at 9 and fill a desperate need for the Cowboys if all goes to plan.
Mosley's thoughts on this subject matter make me feel even more confident with Smith at 9. Just analyze the field. Tyron Smith is a much superior player (on tape and with his high ceiling) than Carimi, Castonzo, Sherrod, Solder, or Pouncy. It isn't even close.
I was confident that Felix Jones would be the pick at 22 and was relieved when Arizona didn't take him, and I'm confident that Smith will be the pick at 9. If you trade down you lose the one blue chip offensive tackle in this draft. You lose a blue chip, cornerstone player.
Dallas will not do that, I predict. You build your team, not the Dolphins or any other team.
