Packers better off passing on Moss

I simply can't comprehend why any team, especially the Packers, would ever consider trading for Randy Moss!
Tuesday's edition of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson is having his monthly meeting with his bosses today.
And I am sure that at some point in the pow-wow, attended by CEO Bob Harlan and the Packers board of directors, the topic of trading for Moss will be addressed.
I am hoping, for the sake of the Packers, their wonderful fans, the players themselves, and head coach Mike McCarthy, this topic dies a sudden death.
Because trading for Randy Moss would be a mistake of gigantic proportions.
Moss was electric in Minnesota, but he is two years removed from those days.
His tenure in Oakland has been filled with nagging injuries, including a bum hamstring that has affected his once-blazing speed. Plus, he has had a case of the yips catching the ball. Practice has become an option. And criticizing everyone in the organization, has become SOP.
Oh yeah. You also have to pay Moss millions to keep him happy. He's due $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 in 2008. If you renegotiate, you know he'll complain sooner rather than later.
This is why he's worn out his welcome in Oakland and why the Packers should stay away.
Then there's the infamous "mooning" that so disgusted the Packer faithful and Joe Buck.
McCarthy has built this team around hard work and accountability, two traits that are the antithesis of Moss' beliefs. This is a guy who once said "I play when I want to play" and once walked off the field in a Vikings game against the Commanders before a final attempt at an on-side kick.
And how would Moss feel being the second or third receiver?
Donald Driver is simply a better player at this stage. And I love the development of young Greg Jennings, who was on the radar of several successful franchises before Thompson plucked him in last year's draft.
If you want to get Brett Favre a veteran receiver until Koren Robinson comes back from suspension, go sign Bobby Engram, who told me that he has the Packers on his short list. Go out and sign Eric Moulds. Bring in Keenan McCardell.
These guys are free agents. You wouldn't have to trade any picks. A Packers fan shouldn't want Thompson, who cleaned up in last year's draft, dealing any picks whatsoever. Adding Moss would be a major headache for McCarthy and his players, who will get peppered with questions about every move the moody receiver makes. That's the last thing you need when you already have to answer non-stop questions about whether or not Favre will retire.
