That makes total sense in hindsight, but re-signing Dak coming off the injury would have been even more tricky because there probably would have had to be loads of incentives written into the deal. Dallas would have probably panicked and given him what he wanted anyway. And this year, just like last year, they did not have options. None of the free agent QB's available in 2024 or 2025 come remotely close to Dak. And 12 overall is way too late to draft his successor. Even if the Cowboys tried to trade up, the teams involved would just want the QB targeted anyways.I thought Dallas should have waited and let the 2024 season play out instead of signing Prescott.
If they had, Dallas would have been in a better position to negotiate this year.
Dallas would have used Prescott's injury and free agent QB class, plus the draft to get a team friendly deal. But they didn't have the patience to call France's bluff.
Dallas didn't see that they had many options. Instead they fixated on Prescott limiting or taking away all leverage.
You hear this now. That one of the best ways to get a good deal is to just get up and walk away from the negotiations. The other party will then return by giving better terms to get the deal done.
Dak would have walked, and our ONLY compensation would have been a 3rd round pick coz they waited until AFTER the draft to address it.
I'll put it this way.........there is no way in hell France would have allowed Dak to walk away from a Cowboys deal WITHOUT a better deal in his back pocket. My guess is France had at least one, maybe two teams willing to pay Dak exactly what he got from Stephen. Was there ANY team wanting Dak for that much mulah, I haven't heard any team to this day...Or Jerry make a deal high on Bourbon??
Steelers definitely were interested in Dak.I'll put it this way.........there is no way in hell France would have allowed Dak to walk away from a Cowboys deal WITHOUT a better deal in his back pocket. Me too, that contract is going to set us back, especially if he can’t finish the season. The contract gives Jerry and Stephen an excuse not to spend in FA.I’d have been fine with zero compensation if it meant avoiding that contract.
No-one woud be that stupid to let him slip away.Steelers definitely were interested in Dak.
Honest question for you..........given the choice who would you rather have? Dak or draft Shedure Sanders ( and Deion lol)No-one woud be that stupid to let him slip away.
And now, we are stuck in the muddy Dak river.
I would have taken a 7th. In 2057.I would have taken the 3rd round pick
Well, one is young and one is old?Honest question for you..........given the choice who would you rather have? Dak or draft Shedure Sanders ( and Deion lol)
So you'd have no concern dealing with Deion......Well, one is young and one is old?
I would go young...Dak is done...not money wise.
Deion would be a huge headache for the Jones. So you'd have no concern dealing with Deion......
He scares me to death........he's going to put his kid under a microscope and micromanage every play. He's manageable drama waiting to happen IMO.

I have always said they should have started serious negotiations immediately after the Super Bowl and set a hard deadline to the end of March 2024What did it matter that they waited until after the draft? He was under contract for 2024 whether an extension got done or not. If they had not reached a deal, it wouldn't have mattered when they didn't do it.
I mean, I can understand believing that he would have cost less with an earlier extension, but when the deal got done didn't matter as far as his free agency or any compensation for him signing elsewhere.
Am I missing something here?
GM Jethro thought he was playing hard ball by trading for Trance.I have always said they should have started serious negotiations immediately after the Super Bowl and set a hard deadline to the end of March 2024
*** complete the extension
*** mutual decision to move on with a trade before the draft
*** once the draft passes w/o a deal or trade ......Dak had 100% all leverage coz free agency. Jerry was left with 2 options .....let him walk or give him a blank check to stay.
Before 2024 draft....Jerry could at least have played hardball with the final year left on his deal and/or traded him for at least 1st, maybe more.
Dak would have walked, and our ONLY compensation would have been a 3rd round pick coz they waited until AFTER the draft to address it.
But there was never any doubt that he was going to be here. It was just a question of reaching terms. It didn't matter when we reached those terms.I have always said they should have started serious negotiations immediately after the Super Bowl and set a hard deadline to the end of March 2024

Jerry had to overpay because he had zero leverage. Plan and simple. Same will happen with Micah.LOL, right now no one would be giving Dak 60 million
The Joneses are idiots
Shoulda made him play it out
