Appears that Philly has tagged L.J. Smith TE.

Baltimore is tagging Terrell Suggs DE.

Oakland is tagging Nnamdi Asomugha CB.

None of those is a big suprise.

The L.J. Smith one is a HUGE surprise to me. L.J. Smith is very injury prone and is horribly inconsistent. He is in no way worth the 4+ million for 1 season, that they'll have to give him on a Franchise deal if they can't get him under a long term contract. I don't see why they'd want him long term, either, cause of the injury and inconsistency problems.

I'm not surprised as all by the Suggs and Aso tags though.

I don't get the LJ Smith tag at all.

At 1st glance, I was a little shocked he got the tag but when looking at the price of a franchise TE, its not that big of a shocker. Someone posted it a few days ago and I thought it was under 3 million. Not a whole lot for a player who contributes (albeit when healthy) the way that LJ does.

Wow, L.J. Smith makes no sense at all.

Suggs is still a top tier player and should get an extension next season.

Asomugha is a beast, I wish we had him.

This is the portion of Free Agency that makes a decent crop of players turn into slim pickings.

Actually they reported that his franchise hit is 4.25, maybe a little more, for a top 5 TE.

That is simply too much for LJ, even when he is healthy cause he drops to many passes (And for those Cowboys fans who are roasting Crayton for his bad playoff game, cause of drops, they'd really hate this guy) and fumbles a bit more than you'd like. Plus he's not a real solid blocker.

Bad move.

The big thing is that Asomugha is a corner and Suggs is a pass rusher. Asomugha and Suggs don't have to be a top 5 player at their position to be worth franchising because it's difficult to find somebody that's effective at those positions which are so crucial to the game. Tight End on the other hand can be found in later rounds of the draft and even if you don't have a Jason Witten or Antonio Gates, you can still do well with a decent tight end.

Oh, 4.25 is a little different. I think maybe I was thinking of the thread the other day that had some salaries of the boys players and where that ranked. Don't know why I confused that with Franchise Numbers but I did.

Anyway, 4.25 is a decent chunk. Possible though that they didn't want him to hit the market and are anticipating a long term deal.

Any event, I don't think LJ is a top 5 TE but the value he has to that team is probably pretty high. They don't have much at WR so keeping a TE who can catch is pretty key for them.

I can see why they made the move but then again 4.25 is a little bit pricey.

Yeah I could see possibly keeping him but not at the price of a top 5 TE cause he's simply not one.

I remember a little while back some dumb arse commentator said LJ Smith was the best TE in the NFC East. i can't remember who, probably Jaworski......

 well put! The giants were actually alot better with Chris Boss than with Shockey.

those who said this makes the eagles bad.....dumb they have alot of cap room and this is just a drop in the bucket. especially for just one year as it may be.
