The Cowboys have yet to see anything from receiver Danny Coale, a fourth-round pick a year ago. But if he can get on the field, his former coach said they will see a clutch player.

“One time, I was asked, ‘How does that guy always get open?’ ” Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said. “Plays develop and plays develop and plays develop, and there’s Danny wide open – I don’t know how many times that happened at Tech.

“He’s fast, but you just look at him, you don’t think he is. He sneaks up on you. I think people underestimated his speed sometimes. But he catches the ball. He gets open. And he’s got some toughness to him.”

Beamer found time to answer a few Cowboys questions Sunday in Martinsville, Va., where he was scheduled to drive the pace car for a NASCAR race.

Hope so, seems like a 100% effort kind of guy. ACL's happen all the time, but the other injuries were a little frustrating.

Have more faith in Danny Coale than Cole Beasley.

I believe that Danny Coale makes the team and contributes if he can stay healthy throughout training camp.

At least one WR will step up and contribute this year. My guess is maybe two not counting Harris. Both Coale and Beasley get open.

5th round. But, yeah, we basically got a red-shirt year for this guy. If he and Johnson can contribute in their position groups, it'd be a very good thing for this team's depth overall.

We kept hearing that Amendola was too small too, how'd that turn out? Many here knew Amendola had game and if we don't give Beasley a shot I have the feeling he will become a very good player for another NFL team.

Can Coale still punt? If so he makes himself alot more valuable.

Ive been saying this all along. Hes a good receiver. In Techs bowl game vs Michigan, he had a TD that was called back because they said he was OOB, when he clearly wasnt, anyways it was a beautiful catch.

He seems to run good patterns, gets open and has demonstrated good hands, but defenders do seem to run right through him on stopping patterns (illegally a couple of times IMO). Perhaps he can make adjustments and/or will get more calls as a 2nd year vet. I fear for him though.....
