Fred Beard update?

Yet the player thinks he'll be ready by week 14. But what does he know? He's only got firsthand knowledge of his recovery

Exactly. Obviously there could come a point where uncertainty dictates that the team prepare as if he won't be back, but barely past the midway point of this season is not that point. For all we know now he may well be at or near 100% next season, and there is no need to make any judgement on those odds now. That judgement can wait until free agency is about to start in about 4 months, and there will be better information to judge from at that time.

Yeah every player thinks he is always ready to play at the soonest time possible. He has no idea the long term effects of this disease or how it will affect him when he goes to play and what his strength will play. I don't listen to players at all when it comes to if they are healthy. Every player that has ever been asked says they are doing fine and ready to play.

Looney has been great but he's not a highly regarded center he's a killer back up and may have to do next year.
Left tackle is other spot your right. TE would be my chose if Fred beard makes it back
disagree watch him all year, hes agood starter just not PB elite and well we cant have those at every postion, again if drafting a new OL for the future a LT for Tsmits future replacement, can use him at RT if we let LC go and then if Smith is repoalced we switch hom over..much better plan..

I have no doubts it will be the doctors who have the final word. I think one bright side is the fact he has been working in the weight room since early October. We also know based on what Mark Schlereth said who also had this illness and worse than Frederick has, that he was able to continue his career and played several more afterwards. I don't think anyone here can say he will be back this season or next year

The team won't just be listening to the player though. The doctors will be part of the discussion. Both the doctors and team will know more as time goes on, so there is no need to make decisions until they are necessary.

As long as he can lift and get his strength back his isn't dealing with an actual injury in the same way as broken bone or ACL tear

I don't think there's any need to panic. From the moment T-Fred was diagnosed we heard a full recovery was expected; but that there was also no way of getting a definitive timetable.

Since Joe Looney is under contract for 2019, I think the Cowboys have the luxury of giving Travis all the time he needs to come back at 100 percent.

I also don't think the Cowboys need to draft a center, because I remember reading an article in which Frederick said his doctors told him the disease is non-recurring. Once he's over it he'll be fine.

The update is that it will be next year at the earliest. It's not a nice sickness to come down with or recover from.

as you wish

Jerry has always been overly optimistic about players returning. Once they put Fredbeard on IR, that told me they thought there was *zero* chance he could return in 8 weeks. Given the likely broad uncertainty about his prospects at that point, that projects his *expected* return date past the end of the season.

Next year. Lucky that Joe has come through so well. I hope he gets a little play time bonus out of this.
