Frederick absence will cause a huge Roster problem

From a football standpoint, Frederick's absence will result in a bad snowball effect for the Cowboys when they are finalizing the Roster.
The team just wasn't prepared for dealing with the absence of TF whether through injury or illness.
Unlike the skills positions, most teams don't have singular backups for interior linemen. The cowboys, like most other teams, have dual purpose backups to cover the interior linemen should they get injured.
And usually, the dual-backups are not legitimate starter material but have skills to provide relief hopefully for a short period of time until the stater returns.
Dallas attempted to cover their bases by signing Looney, Martin, and Fleming. Fleming is a Swing tackle so the team was relying on Looney and Martin to fill in, hopefully, on a sparing basis. But now with Travis out, the problem is exasperated by Martin being lost for the year. Looney was to backup the Center and guard positions. Now he has to solely focus on Center and now the backup guard will either have to be one of the URFA's we signed or a vet off of someone's roster after cuts are made.
As a result, the team may be forced to carry more Olineman than they had planned which will result in going short and cutting players at other positions in order to shore up the Oline.
It is likely that they will have to release or expose a player or two on the Practice Squad.
The situation becomes even dire if teh backup Olineman also suffer an injury.
At that point, the once strength of this team will be even more compromised and result in this team struggling to reach it's potential.

Couldn't disagree more, injuries happen its football....just think of it like he had a broken leg, same difference....the team will make moves and adjust, it's nothing new or earth shattering....

Guy is sick and can't play, they will bring in extra guys as needed and use the IR as meeded....nothing that every nfl team doesn't deal with every year

I agree that they will adjust, but TF's absence will affect how they will construct their Roster. Injuries always happen but injuries to starting lineman are particularly harmful because, as I stated originally, teams don't usually have backups at the OLine position that are specific to those positions. They tend to have multi-purpose lineman who are good at multiple spots but not great at one. It's undeniable that the team will have to go long at the Oline position and now short at others in order to shore up the interior o line

This is what it boils down to. Yes, losing Frederick hurts, and yes, Looney stepping in alters the look of the depth. But, as you say, this is football, and injuries occur, and you deal with it.

NFL needs to change the rules so that guys SUCH AS Fred who have genuine ILLNESS not football related do not have to take up a roster spot.

He can be put on IR and not take up a roster spot. If he’s healthy midway through he can come back.

dont give up hope, we might be. remember when this team loses a starter, its usually over. we ll win some, we ll lose some. You can pretty much scratch off playoffs.

That’s very true my friend.

We seem to be the only NFL team incompetent at times to adjust to injuries.

And wait 8 weeks. Rules are antiquated....

It used to be that if a player were put on IR he couldn’t play at all the rest of the season, so this is actually better for the teams. But part of it is also about players careers, and the rule helps prevent teams from keeping players they don’t intend to keep long term so that player has a chance to catch on with a team that may want him longer term and that he may fit better with. Besides, if he were only going to be out 2 weeks, what would be the harm keeping him on the roster? Frederick is almost certain to be out longer than that though.

Naw, the NFL will use having to be reasonable for player benefit as a tool to negotiate down from against the NFL Player's Union.

Like 2016 when Romo went down? Or 2014 when Sean Lee missed the season?

Now, let’s at least try looking at it fairly. There is no question there have been times the team has done a poor job handling an injury to an important player, but let’s not act as if that is the case every time. That’s just plain false.

That’s why I said at times. :)

I was on the side of “we will be fine”. See post above. Just saying sometimes it seems we have trouble overcoming. I miss the Jon Kitna days!

one of the many reasons used to not make the playoffs. also used to keep a certain coach. we re also talking about a team that had a problem with that position. Its not like the team is able to plug anyone into that role and get the results its been getting. We dont even know how the line will react until the season.

Other teams exploit our weaknesses, it would be nice if Dallas does it more often as well.

Ability problem yes but roster problem, is not that big of a deal. He won't count towards the roster and we will find some scrub for depth. His talent will be missed for sure.

You also said the Cowboys are the only team. I guess you missed what happened to Green Bay without Rogers in 2017 and 2013. Or what happened to the Giants without OBJ. Or what happened to Seattle when Suh left - not an injury, but a hole to fill. Teams feel the loss of players all the time. It’s not unique to the Cowboys.
