Yea, this. lol

If I remember correctly he was a pretty well graded player (top 50 for some) when we got him.

I liked the value when we drafted him but didn’t see this coming. His position versatility could be a huge asset if he can turn into a serviceable start for us at C.

I wonder how he compares to the top Centers coming out this year? I would have no problem if the Cowboys take Tyler Biadasz in the 3rd round - or Matt Hennessy. I think Cushenberry will be the first to be drafted though.

For what its worth, Broaddus thinks Hennessy is the best center in this draft.

There isn’t a 1st rounder C in the draft. McGovern was a top 100 prospect for most, top 50 for some, when he came so it might be tough to draft someone better.

Written scouting reports almost always make guys look like future all pros

Part of his being shown as a 3-5 round pick is because teams generally don't pick centers high, Biadasz is the no. 1 listed center at Walterfootball, but even they show him as a round 2-3 pick. Of course Dallas picked Frederick in the first round, and that worked out great, but at this point I don't think the Cowboys are intent on building a top o-line like they were a few years ago.
Still, if they intend to stick with the run first offense, wouldn't be surprised if they take him at 17, especially if all the top players they covet are gone by 17...

That was kind of what I was saying. Even though McGovern was taken in the 3rd round, he may be as good as the centers coming out this year. Although I think Biadasz is going to be a good one.

McGovern might work out at C, but I really wanted him to challenge Williams at LG.

I don't think we need to reach, but if we can get one of those top 4 guys in round 3, I am all for it. All of them look to be plug and play type guys.

Every mock I've seen has Tyler Biadasz going in the 2nd round.

The last several years have been lackluster at OT, and this year is absolutely stacked I think the OT class will be drafted early and often as many as 8-9 by the time we pick at 51. With that being said I feel the interior o-line will run deeper than expected, and if anything drops some higher rated players to us. over the first 3 rounds. Stick to the board, and the only positions really solidified that you won't draft early is QB, RB, maybe LB, and of course ST.

QB and OT are the two positions who may drop to us in the first 2 rounds and might even push quality guys to us in the 3rd especially interior o-line.

McGovern's grade was as a guard though, was it not?

Having played C was just a plus to drafting him, not the selling feature IIRC

It looks like they just grade them as offensive lineman on the site

Thanks.

I like Biadasz for his aggressiveness. I watched some film of LSU and for the life of me I cannot explain why Cushenberry is rated so much higher than Damien Lewis. Lewis looks like a bulldozer to me. I don't see Looney as a long term solution even as a backup so if one of these guys drops to the 3rd round, I would not be unhappy if they picked him.

We have 2 guys to play center. Looney, Connor McGovern, (played in college) and then there is Redmond as last option. Only draft a center if he can immediately start and is an obvious upgrade.
