Frederick retirement could get more cap space

“Travis Frederick currently counts for $11.975 million on the Cowboys salary cap and would have counted for $11.04 million in dead money had they officially retired him back in March. By waiting the Cowboys only need to account for $4.975 million in dead money this year, opening up $7 million in cap room to bring them to around $12 million for the season. So waiting was clearly the right move for them as they needed some extra cap space. Frederick’s charge next year will be $6.065 million. “

Good info. Thanks for the post.

12 million in cap space after signing Dak and everyone? Wow...………….I guess Dak really destroyed the salary cap eh?

I'm pretty sure that a certain amount of unused cap space can be pushed into next season.

It does, plus Dallas likes to keep about 10 Million on the books each year in case they need to make trades if an injury happens. That's what they did acquiring Michael Bennett last year, he was paid about 3 Million last year to fill in when Tyrone Crawford got hurt.

Whatever they don't use from that reserve, they roll into the next year.

I still think they should cut or better yet trade Crawford. Watch that cap space jump then.

It will. But there will be a 7mil dead cap hit next year. So from a 2021 standpoint its a wash. But for now it will free up 7 mil

Too much owed to trade, unless we outright dump him. I'm okay with keeping him. We're often injured at the front, so depth is always a good thing.

Considering that the cap for 2021 will be at best flat, and very possibly less than it is in 2020, and with increasing obligations for Elliott, Cooper, Prescott and Lawrence, amongst others, I think they would be better served getting Frederick off the books in the 2020 cycle. That $6M next year could hurt.

The defense wouldnt be able to withstand not having Crawford.

At a half million a game, he is quite the bargain.

Hey, he plays DT AND DE!!!

Joking of course, but does anyone really want to actually SEE what Jerry is doing in the photos Crawford has of him?

I could be wrong...and too lazy to check lol, but I think I saw where Cooper has a discounted cap figure this year, and it jumps for 2021.

Sweet. Now use it to get me another toy on Defense... Don’t care who but maybe a safety. Just make it nice..

GOAT gonna GOAT.

The Raiders are SB bound! Just win, baby!
Did heath go to the raiders. If so let’s see how he does this year. Oh wait if he did it will be on marinelli defense. That’s where he went to right..

I wonder if Marinelli uses him differently. I always like Heath as a true single high. Makes the best use of his straight-line speed and ball skills, and keeps him from the LOS where his struggles to flip his hips and turn upfield hurts us.

Reading an article or two, it look like they see him as special teams and depth. Amazingly, the Raiders took our ST guy from last year.
