Were they?

Maybe there was another bidder ?

Maybe getting in bidding war with other teams was avoided?

Reading a tweet yesterday that Green Bay was trying to trade it would possibly cut him if not, doesn’t make it as simple as you say

Exactly

Well... the excitement of getting Gary for a day 3 pick was quickly submarined by seeing Fitzpatrick go for a 7th...

Damn...

They were going to cut him. Not sure what part of this is beyond your grasp.
Why didn’t they?

They literally denied it and Gary took down the tweet and later said the account was hacked.

What you’re not getting is that by trading for him, they avoid getting into a bidding war for his services which inflates his AAV AND requires guaranteed money.

Now, the Cowboys are only on the hook for his yearly salary which is not guaranteed; they can cut him next season if need be.

And a “declining player” that just had his best season

A 4th round pick is a lottery pretty much. Dallas has hit on about 40% of them over the past couple of decades. Yes, some like Prescott or Free or Pollard were Pro Bowlers. But for the most part they were busts or spare parts that amounted to nothing. With that said, people really need to understand that Gary is an upgrade to our D. Regardless of what you think of him, he is better then any DE currently on the roster and bringing him in for a 4th is really not a big deal. The key here is what else are they adding?

People can scream about Fitzpatrick and the cost of a 7th-rounder. But its what comes with it that was not enviable for Cowboys front office. His contract cost, and what it would to do the remaining cap number to spend in FA. Is he worth $13.3 million cap hit? I say no. Are there other S in FA that can be had under 8-10 million annually that will still improve the D? Answer is yes. Is this a strong draft for S? Answer is yes.

So this should be a no-brainer. Is it guaranteed that Gary will sign with Dallas after release? No. Its the price of business to better your D. And we should all be happy that they have.

smart move to get out ahead i guess

“Rickey Scoops” is reporting Hendrickson to the Cowboys. For context, Scoops had Micah going to the Packers before ANYONE. The league is actually investigating who this is.

I don’t doubt his sources, but how could this be already negotiated before the legal window opens up?

Hand the DT from the Chargers would be a sneaky good signing. He was very good. Add him for quality depth.

How will the Cowboys shock us again, come on guys there's no time to complain, let's be positive about this, we're adding to this roster one step at a time!!! What's next, my heart can't take much more!!!
