At this point I don't see how any deal for Martin makes it cheaper this year, unless we restructure on top of the 15mill a year his agent is probably wanting.

I dont really want a 20mill cap hit for an OG in 2019, I don't care how good you are.

He's the best in the league, but at this point I'm probably tagging him next year and planning on replacing him.

Not even sure it would take that much, stash. The safety position in FA is taking it in the "you know what", right now. I think we can get one of those guys (my preference is also Boston) for relative pennies on the dollar (and it's going to get even cheaper as the days go by). Bowman had been said to be a priority for the Raiders at the end of the season but so far it's been crickets. Which is odd because he actually played well for them last season. These guys are going to get trigger happy for a deal here pretty soon. I think that's when Dallas needs to strike (even if it's for one year "prove it" deals). I don't want to give the FO too much credit but I have a feeling that they have their finger on the pulse of both of these players.

Any deal Martin signs is going to come with a minimum base salary this year if 790k. The majority of his 2018 cap hit will come from his prorated signing bonus, which would need to be 45 million for his cap to increase.

I couldn't call that a terrible idea out of hand. His contract demands are obviously huge and at some point you have to start making tough decisions like that. Can't pay everybody, especially tops a team their positions.

That's why I can't help but consider that they might go defensive end at pick #19 if a guy like Davenport as there and just let Lawrence walk for huge bucks in 2019 and take the 3rd round comp pick the following year.
