Last season was not a very deep draft at DB so we decided to resign Mo, restructure Carr and roll with what we had. We didn't tie up any significant money or additional years in either player, both were essentially a one year rental almost like we knew that the 2017 draft would be deep at DB.

This season is considered one of the deepest drafts in history as far as DBs go so instead of tying up 7-10 million in cap space on a couple players that were never good enough to begin with (Carr/Mo); we decided to get younger in a hurry.

We brought back Brice/Williams/McFadden so nothing can distract us from our offseason goals of defense and we are left with Awuzi/Lewis over Mo/Carr. Awuzi/Lewis may not turn out to be great players BUT...they are younger, cheaper and they offer more upside and we have them on contract for four years. We capitalized on one of the deepest drafts in history at defensive back.

It seems like this team has mastered the art of only using free agency as a way to avoid distractions come draft day. We are also looking into the future; only signing veterans to short term deals to not distract the team for their goals in future drafts. We could've easily went out and signed a RT or WR to a long term deal this season...or we could take our time, be patient with what we have and take advantage of the 2018 draft.

Trust the process...
